I come back from Abuja with news that I believe will lead to concrete steps to #EndPoliceBrutality.
I met with the IGP. Starting from this week, a panel will be setup comprising of citizens to look at all cases of abuse by the police around the country.
SARS officials have immediately been asked to leave the streets around the country following their disbandment and return to police headquarters for debriefing and psychological examination.
A deep look at their activities will commence. The work will be exhaustive so prepare to submit your queries within the parameters they will share.
In Lagos, we have immediately set up a trust fund that will be managed by nominated members of the public and CSOs to compensate families that have lost loved ones to police brutality. People like the wife of Mr Okechukwu Ilo who died in tragic circumstances will not be left out.

After meetings with the President, IGP, Lagos CP and the NGF today, I will like to sòrò soke about what we are immediately doing in Lagos to build trust, #EndPoliceBrutality and ensure we don't have to address these issues again.
It's a time of sober reflection in Lagos and indeed across the country. It has taken a powerful youth led action to drive reform and hopefully begin the process that truly delivers a citizen friendly police. I just had a press briefing and I will like to share some points here.
1. Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS In Lagos: We have setup a 7 man panel that will ensure that all those with verifiable cases of SARS brutality or fatality receive compensation. The Panel will be chaired by retired Justice Doris Okuwobi.
I was at the venue of one of the #EndSARS protests today. The safety of everyone involved in peaceful protests across Lagos is important and communicating with the CP, this is what we want to guarantee on all sides.
Tomorrow, I will be meeting with HE Pres. @MBuhari in Abuja.
As a servant of the people, my job is to listen and do everything within my power to act while managing the nature of the problems our people are protesting against. I am proud of our youth and the courage they are displaying in articulating their grievances.
I identify wholeheartedly with the #EndSARS campaign as it touches the essence of democratic freedom.
Citizens must never be denied the right to protest and your voices have been heard.
A week ago, I spoke to the IGP and there has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes.
We thank the FG for listening to the voice of the people via peaceful but powerful protests showing the people's commitment to protecting each other irrespective of gender or tribe.
It is an undeniable fact that The Police Force needs strong and enduring reforms. A good example of a reformed unit is the Lagos RRS.
With constant funding from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund and the LASG, the RRS is the definition of a friendly police.
They are not nicknamed The Good Guys for nothing. They help to make our lives easier in many ways. This shows it is possible to reform the police. A more intelligent and empathetic force is needed.
Today, I participated in the virtual State of States Report hosted by @BudgITng with the theme: Exploring Fiscal Dimensions of Epidemic Preparedness of Lagos State. The fiscal health and sustainability of our state in the face of a mounting demand for better service...(1/9)
... delivery is now more important than ever. In 2019, only 22.82% of our revenue came from the FAAC, which puts us in a class by ourselves among the 36 states and the FCT. As at August 2020, the percentage of FAAC in our total revenue base was 21.4% which speaks to....(2/9)
... the resilience of the Lagos State economy and our ability to ensure that we continue to maintain an independent approach to the FAAC contribution as a component of our revenue base. In the first quarter of 2020, our actual revenue outperformed the budgeted figure by 6%. (3/9)
Today, in my virtual goodwill address at #KadInvest 5.0, I commended the Kaduna State Government for using the annual forum as a serious platform for showcasing the investment potentials of the state.
Inspite of the pandemic, the event defied odds and rolled out a rich programme of discussions and engagements that benefited participants. I was particularly thrilled by the 3 elements of the summit's theme; Infrastructure, Industrialisation and Innovation.
These 3 elements are critical to delivering economic growth to the people.
It is worthy of note that the prosperity of the future will rest largely on innovation and Kaduna just like Lagos is on the right track by prioritising innovative thinking as a key driver of development.
In my opening address today at a 2-day Ministerial Performance Review Retreat, I noted that Lagosians will not accept #COVID19 as an excuse for non-performance.
Regardless of the challenges we face, we are still committed as a government to fulfilling the promises we made.
I therefore charged cabinet members and other senior officials to heighten the tempo of governance and continue to create opportunities through innovative policies that are not only inclusive but also provide sustainable solutions.
I reiterated that the yardstick for performance assessment will not be based majorly on the amount of money expended but on the outcome of our various interventions and impact on the lives of the citizens that we swore to serve.
