"In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers." - Fred Rodgers
We have needed more Mr. Rodgers' moments in the last 4 years.
"Listening is where love begins: listening to ourselves and then to our neighbors." - Fred Rodgers
"Mutual caring relationships require kindness and patience, tolerance, optimism, joy in the other's achievements, confidence in oneself, and the ability to give without undue thought of gain." - Fred Rodgers
"The world needs a sense of worth, and it will achieve it only by its people feeling that they are worthwhile."
- Fred Rodgers
"Try your best to make goodness attractive. That's one of the toughest assignments you'll ever be given."
- Fred Rodgers
Here is one #45 could learn from
"There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind."
- Fred Rodgers
""We speak with more than our mouths. We listen with more than our ears."
- Fred Rodgers
"You can't really love someone else unless you really love yourself first."

"Who you are inside is what helps you make and do everything in life."
1/ History of DSM. During WWII US psychiatrists, clinical psychologists & other medical personnel realized they did not share a common terminology to discuss syndromes & diagnoses. The APA created the first Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-1) in 1952. #DroptheDisorder
2/ Since 1952 the DSM has been revised 6 times. 2013 - the DSM-V. The DSM is political, not scientific. For example, diagnostic labels create the illusion of an explanation but in reality, they are scientifically meaningless & can create stigma and prejudice. #DroptheDisorder
3/ For example PTSD was formulated through therapeutic “safe spaces” of the two conscientious-raising movements of the early 1960s and 1970s - the women’s movement and the anti-war movement. #DroptheDisorder#traumainformedKE
3/ Symptoms associated with trauma in individuals influence all levels of society and aspects of governance and security when large segments of a population are affected.
Private education in Kenya has no value for money when compared to other options. And now we are free to explore new options.
2/ The best thing #COVID19KE has shown our family is the private school our kids were attending pre-COVID19 was not offering value for money. 5th grade, we were paying around 800,000ksh a year and for 8th grade, we were paying 900,000 a year. There are about 90 students per grade
3/ When COVID19 closed schools they gave families (without consultation) a 20% and 25% discount to move to virtual classrooms. They said it was the biggest discount they could offer because they were a non-profit and 70% of their fees went for staff and teacher salaries.
Aflatoxin poisoning is negatively impacting dogs all over Nairobi right now.
We have a dog at the vet right now fighting for his life and another friend lost her pug this week.
Be visual and if you suspect it, get your dog to your vet ASAP it is deadly.
@RiazGilani -- I need to talk to you this morning after a couple of calls about getting clean food.
Because of the lack of drying grains in Kenya this year, all food using Kenyan grains - whether home-cooked or packaged is at risk. The wheat germ we had in our dog's food came from a very trusted source. The other pug which has died was eating locally produced dog food.
The #ACEs studies conducted by the #CDC and Kaiser Permanente demonstrated that traumatic experiences in
childhood are a prime source of physical, psychological, and behavioral problems throughout life. #traumainformedKE
#ACEs also provided a new scientific basis for approaching human development through what the #WHO terms #biopsychosocial approaches. Moreover, they show that traumatic experiences tend to occur in highly interrelated clusters, rarely alone. #DevelopmentTrauma
@DFHRC@Resindiyo@ZahraTJuma@jamlekjakababa The #ACE studies used a questionnaire that asked respondents about a dozen common adverse childhood experiences. The results showed the more traumatic experiences suffered in childhood, the more illnesses, mental problems, and destructive behaviors people will suffer in life.
