This is going to be a personal thread ...
I'm extremely angry at this news that @roinnslainte & @DonnellyStephen have turned their backs on their "heroes" once again in talks with @IMO_IRL
Off sick this week. Felt like an articulated truck smashed into me. My heart is chucking ectopics every few seconds leaving me feeling even more exhausted. I have given my all since end of January in response to #COVID19ireland like the rest of my #publichealth colleagues
The battle for consultant status is NOT about 💰 I dont want more €. I want terms & conditions from @HSELive & the State @roinnslainte@IRLDeptPER that enable me to do a better job for my population.
I want & need appropriate autonomy & authority to advocate, agitate & achieve for the health of the population I serve. On @rtenews@VirginMediaNews@RTE_PrimeTime@TonightVMTV etc you will see consultants from all other specialties & wonder why #publichealth isn't there ...
We will ballot for industrial action @IMO_IRL. For first time ever we have huge support from our colleagues across health system which we are VERY grateful for! We 💯 cannot continue to be disrespected, bullied & pushed to the brink
But how many of us will actually stay to take industrial action? How many of us instead will vote with our feet & leave @HSELive rather than take action? Other States respect us & our @RCPI_news training
Not sure who gives a toss @ me but I DO give a toss @ my patients
I want to keep working for them but without the right terms & conditions I can't @IMO_IRL
I'm going to stop now. My heart is skipping all over the place. This is how devastated & angry i am. I LOVE my job but my ❤ can't cope with the conditions I & my #publichealth colleagues have to endure
2. B4 #Covid_19 ever came along our departments were small, understaffed, contracted to provide M-F 9-5 service. We moved quickly to provide 7/7 service with extended day to 9pm with the SAME number of staff. Many of us were working 7 days a week every week
3. As case numbers increased we had to FIGHT for extra staff repeatedly. It was a LONG time b4 we got the level of staffing needed - 80-90% redeployed staff, rest agency. We had to deal with a pandemic & train new staff some pulled after couple of days/weeks @paulreiddublin
Thread: Heading into work today to try to do a job that the law describes one way but my HSE job contract describes completely differently. If I & other #publichealth specialists in Ireland work to our HSE job contract we cannot provide an appropriate response to #COVID19 1/9
I will for now continue to work as a consultant despite the fact that my employer @HSELive@CcoHse@paulreiddublin does not recognise or acknowledge the job I & other #publichealth specialists do 2/9
