1. Nigeria gave me the cheapest education I have accessed at the tertiary level.
I can only imagine being in the same class with people who attended prime institutions whose tuition for a year can pay the tuition of 10-20 kids like me in Nigeria.
We all had similar chances,
what did you do with yours? While I agree that the standards are different, did you accept the "School an Scam" gospel or work hard to make sure the struggle counts?
As for me, I made it count and had a 4.76 bachelors and a 5.0 Masters all from #FUTO. I am now global!!!
2. Nigeria Made me struggle into my opportunities.
I saw an opportunity in every struggle. After all the grades, I struggled for 4 years(post-bachelors) before I got a job. While waiting, the pains lead to the creation of the @FclNetwork and Built my capacity to compete for
foreign education. While I waited, I published more than 20 local scientific pubs, built my research skills, constantly applied for several scholarships & here I am @RutgersU- The best campus I can call home!
What are you doing post-graduation?Blaming the country? or blaming you?
3. Nigeria Gave me my Parents, My siblings, my Friends, and my Beloved wife @Miz_Stephany (My No 1 fan).
Who can beat that? All my Life have been Nigerian! childhood in Jos, Sec Sch in Ondo state, tertiary ed. in the East.
Are you grateful for what you have? do you deserve more?
4. Nigeria Taught me Not to look up to my leaders.
I finally realized that I was my own Nigeria. Provided my power, Security, good road, water, food, shelter, medics, etc.
If I did well when I was my own government, I can survive anywhere. so, Nigeria got me prepared.
5. Nigeria taught me politics.
I later realized that Nigerian systems are highly politicized. The only challenge was that "There was limited space for Excellence"
Now I understand that in a world where everyone is excellent in what they do, The political skills I learned matter.
6. Your dreams are Valid!!!
As you struggle, keep your dreams alive
be focused!
Nigeria only made you stronger!
Don't be limited by the system

Scholarships are moving to social media. Many of you don't get replies because of how you are presented. A lot of my #mentees have grabbed their scholarship s on social media. Two important apps you must have is #Twitter and #Linkedin.
How can you benefit from this?
1. Make your profile name catchy!! First impression last longer. All those "sexy dollie" "fine tohbe" etc profile names. Na wa o. How does that present you?
🥞Use your legal names!!!
🥞Get a sweet handle
🥞Write a small profile summary and highlight your education too
2. What's your profile picture? My dear, some profile picture reminds me of the sentence "na only you waka come?
Use a nice casual or smart profile picture. Do you know I got to know about my school via Twitter? and I am here now.
As an African, you could be limited by exchange rates and many of your dream applications are not within reach.
The good news is that you could get a waiver. This thread will show you how.
1. Attend an open house event and ask for a Waiver.
There are tons of this that are usually available during the application season. A simple googling of "open house graduate admission events" will unlock a lot of such events. See below some upcoming ones
2. Connect with Graduate admissions team/division and ask for a waiver
When I was applying for gradschool,I got 3 waivers. If it was now, I would have had more. Simply draft an email stating why lack of funds will limit your chances of applying and send to the team. You'll testify
1.The curriculum vitae
This is the first opportunity you have to sell yourself. It must be targeted to the application. Therefore, you cannot use a single CV for all applications. I strongly recommend what I call a smart CV. Follow this simple guide.
2.The personal Statement
You can consider the tweets below and get a picture of what a great personal statement should contain
1. An astonishing personal statement is not supposed to exceed 1000words except if otherwise stated. Do not stress your reader with irrelevant stories
2. Remember that you don’t have to be make your story sympathetic. Your reviewers are usually business minded and wants the best candidate not the most pitiable candidate
