Update: El Paso now hiring morgue attendants for $27.20/hour. But job applicant must be strong enough to lift deceased bodies weighing 100-400 lbs. (45-180 kg). Better than using jail inmates at $2/hour to move #COVID19 deceased. But so sad and surreal. 😓governmentjobs.com/careers/elpaso…
2) This job posting likely in response to the outcry from this video last week of inmates moving the surge of deceased bodies for $2/hr into overflow morgues. Still chilling. They now have 10 mobile refrigerated morgues.
3) RATIONING CARE—El Paso has been so depleted by #COVID19 that hospitals soon could decide who gets care and who doesn’t. EP begging TX gov for national guard, but Governor Abbott blocking so far. texastribune.org/2020/11/18/el-…
4) I share this above only to vent how frustrated I am at all this. And please wear a damn mask. New CDC study today.
5) Texas had pulled back from containment measures too quickly. Data from Oxford and figures from NYT.
6) Texas wasn’t the worst but clearly it could have done better. But many other places have a crisis that is even worse than Texas. And December will be even further worse sadly— because of 3 week lag of cases-death.
7) Gee, this escalated fast— National Guard now sent in to El Paso to help with morgue body crisis.

2) There is a virus buildup time — called incubation time—until one usually shows symptoms & viral load high enough to the reliably detected. Usually incubation is 5-6 days, but can be 1-14 days or longer. But if you test too early before viral load builds up, you’ll test neg. Image
3) This does not mean testing is bad—if anything we need more frequent testing. But you can test negative 4 days straight and then positive on day 5. That’s what happened to WH staff K-McEnany and S-Miller—4 negatives before 5th positive. Most people don’t have that luxury. Image

📍Reinfection worry re-emerging—another documented reinfection case - this time of a 21 year old women in South Korea. There are now officially 26 confirmed reinfections and 1 death, and 572 suspected reinfections of #COVID19. Infection is rare but not blue moon rate it seems.

BREAKING—FDA has granted emergency use authorization for @Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody cocktail REGEN-COV2 (Casirivimab and imdevimab), the same drug given to Trump when he was infected with #COVID19. Only for mild/moderate cases—not hospitalized. 🧵 fda.gov/news-events/pr… Image
2) There are a lot of rules and FDA stipulations for REGEN-COV2 cocktail use though— cannot be used if patient on oxygen (Trump was) or hospitalized. Children must be 12 or old and weigh 40 kg or more.

📍NEW—Texas Army National Guard has just arrived in El Paso—they have been assigned the grim work of dealing with the overflow of deceased bodies now piled up in 10 refrigerated mobile morgues. It is hard work—previously county jail inmates. #COVID19
2) Previously it was done by jail inmates for $2/hour for past week.
3) El Paso has tried to hire workers for $27/ hour. But they switched to request for national guard instead and got approval yesterday.
