[thread]

The most difficult thing I find is writing the hook into a thread

There is a simple word

It is called Imagine

But first I want to focus on a different topic

Nigeria

And I want to focus on this sentence

"Priti Patel sought to publicly intervene three times on behalf of an offshore company which has been accused in a British court of obtaining a £100m contract from the Nigerian government through corruption."
*three times*

not once

*three*
Sorry I focused on the wrong topic with regards Nigeria

I meant this

"We've got some leaders of some fantastically corrupt countries coming to Britain... Nigeria and Afghanistan, possibly the two most corrupt countries in the world,"

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…
And the intervention of an archbishop

"Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby intervened to say: "But this particular president is not corrupt... he's trying very hard," before Speaker John Bercow said: "They are coming at their own expense, one assumes?""
"And later in the conversation, the prime minister agreed with the Archbishop of Canterbury that President Buhari of Nigeria is not corrupt himself and is trying very hard to tackle the problem."
"A Downing Street spokesman noted both men had written openly about the subject in a collection of essays being published this week."
So on this statement

"written openly about the subject"

Hint:

David Cameron hadn't written openly.
In Sept 2015, Clare Short was asked by Cameron to contribute to a book on corruption ahead of his anti-corruption summit. After she submitted it, she was surprisingly told that it wouldn't be included -the book was taking " a more forward-looking focus".

independent.co.uk/voices/essay-c…
Now I could ask what a "more forward-looking focus" was

But to be honest I can't be bothered wasting my time dealing with a hollow bullshit trope peddled for an obvious reason

Instead .... well I would suggest you read Claire Short's words
Oh yes and when asked about his "gaffe"

Well

"I better check the microphone’s on before speaking"

theguardian.com/politics/video…
Now going back to our earlier article on Priti Patel and Nigeria

I do wonder

When Boris Johnson tried to influence the *independent* report into her bullying

Did he try once

Did he try twice

Did he try three times

What was the effort Boris went to for the "Prittster"

bbc.com/news/uk-550261…
I want to make sure

That Boris

ramped up

levelled up

strained every sinew

As he attempted to interfere into an independent investigation
How sad he must have been that his attempt to influence it was not successful
So I now come to the second part of my original thread

Imagine

And here is where it gets fascinating

I could either focus on Boris Johnson

Or I could focus on Priti Patel

Or I could follow one after the other
So *first* let's deal with Priti

There is a short version

And a long version

Short version

She is a bully

She has broken the ministerial code

The only question is therefore what is her punishment
Long version

/sigh

the fact there even has to be a long version
So we start on Priti

Now

I am not going to look at the Nigeria story

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
I am not going to focus on why people being a do-gooder would be a threat to you

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
I am not going to look at working holidays to Israel

Not only the actual working holiday

BUT also giving a misleading account of it

theguardian.com/politics/2017/…
I am not going to look at threatening to starve Ireland

inews.co.uk/news/politics/…
See aso in the Times

thetimes.co.uk/article/brexit…
A reminder of that 50p coin brexiteers want to champion

"Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations" *

* except when we threaten to starve you

which.co.uk/news/2020/01/b…
A reminder

Those who lied and said they had "many solutions" to the NI border

Why would they need to threaten to starve the Irish?

Why would they need to break international treaty?

It's ok in addition to starving the Irish

There are other "bargaining chips"

brineurope.com/post/2019/03/3…
I am not going to look at blocking your local police federation

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
I am fascinated

Not by the block

(As that's just "normal" now)

But the unblock

Why did you unblock them?

Did Essex Police Federation's warning of the consequences of a decade of Tory policies change?

irishnews.com/magazine/daily…
Perhaps you didn’t like them reminding you of a decade of your party’s deliberate policy choices and their effects on policing at a time of rising crime trends

express.co.uk/news/politics/…
But hey

Black Lives Matters are coming to scare you as they seek to "Defund the police"

That trope imported straight from the Trump playbook

I am not going to dissect this on the death penalty or on “ultimate” burden of proof

Strange then that somehow or witnesses were prevented from contributing to the investigation

Surely Priti would want them present to ensure the "ultimate burden of proof"

theguardian.com/politics/2020/…
Why would you not want to find the "ultimate burden of proof"

I am not going to ask why she had to flee the chamber rather than face questions on Windrush

Follow @ameliagentleman

To understand the legacy of a Home Office and government who well....

If only those Windrush victims had known the right contacts and got into PPE

Why their reward there I am sure would not have been "abysmal"

"Neither contract went through a competitive tender process"

*neither*

thetimes.co.uk/article/tory-s…
Foreign aid to be spent on helping to secure post-Brexit trade deals, Priti Patel says

She hails boost from aid for ‘Global Britain’ – the Brexiteer phrase for new trading opportunities – and says the ‘national interest’ will come first

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
Priti Patel was the poster woman for the ‘save our curry houses’ campaign

One activist told me he was at a community event where Patel apparently stated, ‘if you vote to come out of the EU, we will make sure your auntie and uncle can come to the UK’.

progressonline.org.uk/2017/10/03/hop…
I am not going to talk about tobacco

theguardian.com/world/2017/jul…
"Priti Patel, was part of a team of spin doctors paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to help a tobacco giant counter negative publicity"

theguardian.com/business/2015/…
So that is a list of so many things

I am not going to think about

Not going to consider

Those previous stories on Priti Patel

Don't exist
All I am going to do is focus on the conclusion of the report into Priti Patel's conduct

So all that stuff I have listed on her conduct historically

Ignore it

It doesn't exist
We are *only* going to deal with the bullying

theguardian.com/politics/2020/…
Allan said Patel’s behaviour met the civil service definition of bullying as “intimidating or insulting behaviour that makes an individual feel uncomfortable, frightened, less respected or put down”
Here *one* example of her bullying from 2015

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
"The woman was shouted at, told to get lost and dismissed from her job in the minister’s private office because Ms Patel “doesn’t like your face”, according to legal correspondence seen by the BBC."
"The woman took an overdose of prescription medicines and had to be taken home by her husband, where she attempted to kill herself, the legal correspondence said."
"A complaint was brought for unfair dismissal, harassment, victimisation and discrimination, but did not reach a tribunal because the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) settled the case for £25,000 in April 2017, without admission of liability, the BBC said."
SHE IS A BULLY
Now

That should have been the end of it

She should have been sacked or resigned
But she didn't / wasn't

Now there are 3 elements to the story

A Prime Minister who ordered Tory MPs to "form a square around the prittster"

express.co.uk/news/politics/…
The second

On those who "followed the order"

To put it in German

Befehl ist Befehl
The third

The day on which they did it
Now on the first

The Prime Minister

I am going to ignore him for now - we will come to him later
On the second

On those who helped form a square around the Prittster
Well there are many people who wrote threads on those Conservative MP's and others who stood up for Priti

Sadly it has reached the point where it is actually easier to list Conservative MP's who did NOT defend the "Prittster" than those who did

Now on Friday 20th November 2020

I did similar to others

I wrote a thread where I took those words

A comparison to Easter Sunday 2020 where people defended an "eye sight test"

And ALSO that Friday was the conclusion of Anti Bullying week

So I am not going to go into any detail on Tory MPs and the list of bullshit they spewed as they "formed a square around the Prittster"

I would thank them

For showing exactly who they are
Close your eyes

Imagine yourself as a victim of bullying

Imagine yourself as a friend or family member to someone who has been bullied

Open your eyes

I want you do to this without knowing anything about the bully, their gender, their ethnicity, their personality, their job
Imagine it is your child at school

Imagine it is your child at a work place

Imagine is it your wife at work place

Imagine it is your husband at work place

Imagine IT IS YOU
A simple thing

Imagine it is you

Like Liz Truss in the below

A simple question you would think

But she can't answer it

Now that's our focus on Priti done

We might touch on some themes going forward that apply to her

But now our focus is Boris Johnson
"A report into allegations of bullying by Priti Patel has been on Boris Johnson’s desk for at least two months, the former head of the civil service has told MPs."

thetimes.co.uk/article/boris-…
It's the "at least two months"

Once you are prepared to have a Prime Minister suppress a report and enable that behaviour

Then does it really matter whether its one month, 2 or longer
The key question

Is WHY suppress it
See my initial example of David Cameron and Claire Short

Also see Theresa

Not just one report - but nine

Again if you can do enable suppressing one report

Why not more than one

civilserviceworld.com/professions/ar…
"While the document is still published in name, the Government stopped publishing the core part of the analysis after the general election."

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
Again

Ask the why

Why would you suppress it

e.g. Nicky Morgan below

Sorry Baroness now
but hey "levelling up" right
Now suppressing it

You think hey

That's bad

If I enable that well

Hey it's only suppressing it
All those Conservative's who last week were absolutely ecstatic about defence announcements as they weep at "defence at the realm"

Not sure how that helps tens of thousands dead due ot their herd's incompetence with covid but ho hum
A reminder

The same party suppressed a report into russian interference in british democracy

theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
“It shows the government were afraid they would be criticised when it came out because of its contents,” he told The Independent. “The excuses for delaying it simply didn’t hold water. It was delayed because the prime minister didn’t want it to come out.

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
Now we come to this

"Boris Johnson 'asked for Patel report to be palatable'"
bbc.co.uk/news/uk-550261…
"Downing Street did not deny claims Mr Johnson had tried and failed to convince Sir Alex Allan to tone down his conclusion that Priti Patel's behaviour amounted to bullying as he found instances of shouting and swearing at staff. "

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8…
It is the "had tried and failed"

You know what would have been worse

If he had tried and succeeded

But imagine being a party who are so craven

So desperate in their pursuit of self, career and power

That they enabled the "tried"
A reminder on what a young politician once said on ethics

Margaret Thatcher (on Macmillan)
1963 Jun 22

"The Prime Minister is a man of the highest integrity and honour and should not, therefore, suffer for someone whose standards were not as high as his own.”
Oh and also see the hypocrisy

Not of *just* antibullying week

But ALSO

On #AskHerToStand

standard.co.uk/news/uk/50-50-…
A reminder

Also Margaret Thatcher

1970 General Election Address

"We want a nation with high standards of integrity, tolerance and personal responsibility."
Better to ask forgiveness eh?

politicshome.com/news/article/b…
I will end with two threads now

The first will cover the man who a party decided they wanted to lead him

A man who Jacob Rees Mogg could not answer yes when asked a simple question of if he has a moral compass

And the final thread on a massive success of Boris Johnson's
Yes, the "massive success of coronavirus"

Now the desperation

Is to make you forget

And many will choose to do so

I did some threads recently in praise of Liz Truss and Douglas Ross

Today I am going to do something new

I am going to do a thread in praise of Boris Johnson

First of all

I wish to congratulate Boris Johnson

The take up and promotion of the messaging around the "green industrial revolution" has been more successful than "boutique PR" or the craven cult cowering before Cummings

Today

To distract from

His comments on devolution

Coronvairus

Brexit

And nepotism

And Priti Patel bullying

And so many others
