Alexis Stark interviewed LGBTQ voters who will be happy to see Trump's anti-gay policies halted, but are unsure about how much progress they'll see in a Biden administration. via @MichiganAdvancemichiganadvance.com/2020/11/13/lgb…
U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris made history as the first African American, Indian American and woman to win the vice presidency. @AnnaGustafson reports on what Black and South Asian women in Michigan are looking for from Harris. via @MichiganAdvancemichiganadvance.com/2020/11/21/a-g…
The @michiganadvance covered the politics of what happened in Michigan over the last three weeks, from Republicans convening an oversight elections panel to leaders going to the White House to the State Canvassers vote and I'm very proud of that reporting. michiganadvance.com/2020/11/23/sta…
But I think telling the stories of voters and democracy activists is actually more important and I'm glad our reporters have done so, while providing timely and insightful coverage of partisan shenanigans.
(I was a history major but never subscribed to the Great Man theory).
Our mission at the @MichiganAdvance is to tell stories that other outlets don’t. The people we write for are the heart of our work. Yesterday was #GivingTuesday. If you’re able to donate to support our nonprofit newsroom, we thank you. michiganadvance.com/donate/
I'd like to do a Thanksgiving coda. I'm very thankful for our staff of @HistoryLivesDet, @donahual and @LainaStebbinsMI and all of our many contributing writers and photographers who tell these important stories that too often get overlooked.
I've been a journalist for 20 years and I can tell you writing about politics is the easy part. Talking to people outside the Capitol about how it impacts their lives and digging deeper is far more challenging. It takes talented, empathetic reporters to do that and I'm grateful.

I dunno, but the Tea Party millionaire who pushed Right to Work for years and the 32-year-old Liberty University grad who skated felony charges for trying to bring a loaded gun on a plane may not be the sober GOP institutionalists MI needs right now. michiganadvance.com/2019/01/24/hou…
You may ask yourself: why would Michigan GOP leaders possibly flout the law and try to overturn a not even close election for Donald Trump? Won’t there be consequences? Well, there certainly won’t be political consequences.
If @SenMikeShirkey and @LeeChatfield really did reject Trump's attempt to overturn the election, we will see them quickly disavow the president's statement here and say they recognize Joe Biden as president-elect.
If you would like to know why I am cynical about a vague press release from Michigan Republicans last night (as are many Michigan reporters), here is a brief thread of some of their actions while running the Legislature. michiganadvance.com/2020/11/09/mic…
Within a few days of the election, the GOP Legislature quickly convened a special committee to look into unproven voter fraud. michiganadvance.com/2020/11/06/bre…
For more than a week, the @MichiganAdvance has been trying to report on elected officials who have #Covid_19 in Michigan. I believe there is a vital public interest to report this information, because it's a contagious disease they can spread and these officials make policy.
We have been stonewalled by the GOP Legislature and Supreme Court. I am sure other outlets have had similar experiences. This is the biggest transparency problem we have right now. Normally, we would try and chase people down, but I will not subject our staff in a pandemic.
Here is what we know so far. How many more elected officials are part of the 277,806 Michiganders who have tested positive for #COVID19? The deeply unsatisfying answer is we don't know. michiganadvance.com/2020/11/13/las…
There are all these tortured pieces about how to reach people who believe in insane conspiracy theories about Q, the election and covid but there is no real way to do so. I am so sorry if it’s someone you love but they are not going to listen to reason and coddling doesn’t work.
The frightening part is how many people you know who believe parts of these conspiracies, even if they’re not all in.
Thanks to social media and right-wing media, people can create their own reality and it's often not pretty.
