LEST WE FORGET: OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG NIGERIANS, BY THE BUHARI ADMINISTRATION

The @MBuhari Administration has always had youths as centerpiece of its policies.

Here is a brief compendium of some initiatives put in place, for Nigerian youths, to reposition and empower them:
- @npower_ng : 500,000 enrolled in 2 batches between 2016 and 2020 receiving 30,000 monthly, with enrolment of 3rd batch of 400,000 in progress.

- @officialnyscng Monthly Allowance increased from N19,600 to N33,000; more than 300,000 beneficiaries monthly.
- 75 billion Naira Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF), for businesses owned by young Nigerians aged between 18 and 35:

- Special Public Works Programme to provide 3-month employment to 774,000 young Nigerians across the country (1,000 beneficiaries per LGA):

- $20 million Fund for Nigerian Tech Innovators and Entrepreneurs, managed by @BOINigeria:

- National Young Farmers Scheme: An initiative of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) to engage 1.000 youths in each of the 774 local government areas in mechanized agriculture: nalda.ng/#FAQ
- The Accelerated Agricultural Development Scheme (AADS) by the @cenbank aims to engage a minimum of 370,000 youths in agricultural production across the country, over the next three years, in collaboration with State Governments:

- The 5M Solar Connections Programme, to expand access to 25 million Nigerians by providing 5 million new connections through the provision of Solar Home Systems, or construction & operation of mini-grids. This will incentivise the creation of 250,000 jobs

- The Energizing Education Programme (EEP), is an initiative to provide clean power supply to 37 Federal Universities & 7 University Teaching Hospitals across Nigeria (independent power plant, street lighting, development of a world class training centre on renewable energy).
Phase 1 has already commenced to deliver 28.5MW to 9 Federal Universities and 1 University Teaching Hospital, using solar hybrid and/or gas-fired captive power plants.

- Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme (P-YES), to address the needs of unskilled & less educated youth, by targeting areas of activities that are of importance & are essential to every aspect of our economy, including agriculture, restaurant & catering, fashion design, etc

- The National Survival Fund, @SurvivalFund_ng, designed to reduce the negative impact of COVID-19 on businesses, including but not limited to the following:
Free business name registration for 250,000 beneficiaries;
One-off Payment of N30,000 to more than 300,000 artisans nationwide; and Payroll support of between N30,000 & N50,000 per staff for between 3 (minimum) & 10 (maximum) staff of qualifying MSMEs, for 3 months. survivalfund.gov.ng
- 52% of loans disbursed by the FG-owned @DevBankNG in 2019 were to youths & women-owned businesses. Since 2017, when the bank began operations, the DBN has disbursed more than N150bn through the bank’s 27 Participating Financial Institutions, impacting close to 100,000 MSMEs.

The 5,000 BPD Refinery being commissioned today by Pres. Buhari will produce 271m liters of petroleum product annually. Since it commenced evacuation of products in Nov 2020, it has already delivered 5 million litres of product into the Nigerian market, according to the company.
The next phase of this Project will be a 45,000 BPD Refinery, with a completion timeline of 24-30months. When completed, the Refinery will utilize 16 million barrels of crude oil annually, according to @wabote_simbi, Executive Secretary of @OfficialNCDMB

In the last four days the Minister of @FMWHNIG, @tundefashola and other senior government officials have visited the 3 flagship projects under the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund #PIDFund and assured of President @MBuhari’s commitment to completing all three by 2023.
The Project Update Inspection Tour started with the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway (under reconstruction) on Thursday November 19, 2020. The Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, led a delegation that held a Town Hall Meeting with project stakeholders.
On Friday November 20, the Minister of @FMWHNIG, @tundefashola carried out a Project Update Inspection of the Main Works and Associated Infrastructure of the Second Niger Bridge Project in Anambra and Delta States, and also held a Town Hall Meeting with Stakeholders.

The Managing Director of Julius Berger revealed that the company has introduced a new innovative Cold Recycling method of constructing roads in Nigeria, which is being used for the first time in Nigeria for the ongoing reconstruction of Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway. ImageImage
He listed the benefits of Cold Recycling as achieving shorter construction time, conservation of resources, cost effectiveness, enhanced road safety and environmental friendliness.

President @MBuhari has approved all the recommendations of the Report of the Special Visitation Panel to the University of Lagos. Among the recommendations are the reinstatement of Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe as the Vice Chancellor, as his removal did not follow due process.
The Panel also recommended that all allegations made against the Vice Chancellor and the management of the University before & after Constitution of the Special Visitation Panel should be referred to regular Visitation Panel for thorough investigation & necessary recommendations.
Accordingly:

—Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe is hereby reinstated as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos.

—The Governing Council of the University of Lagos is hereby dissolved.
