All of Devon placed in Tier 2 - what it means - I've put in messages to all the MPs to see what their reaction is and whether they'll be voting for the measures

devonlive.com/news/devon-new…
Why Devon is in Tier 2 - Case rates are 121/100,000 overall though there are higher rates in Plymouth, Torbay and Exeter. The case rate in the over 60s is 85/100,000 though significantly higher in Exeter (155.9/100,000). Positivity is 4.2%. There is pressure at the RDE Hospital.
Response from @garystreeterSWD - "I see that only the Isle of Wight, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are in tier 1 so we must accept tier 2 for Devon and Plymouth. Our rates are continuing to fall and there will be a review before Christmas and I will continue to push...
if the data allows, for us to be in tier 1. I will certainly be supporting these regulations next week. We have got to grip this virus hard as we await the vaccine to be rolled out over the next 4 months."
And from @AnneMarieMorris - "I am disappointed to see Devon placed in Tier 2, especially given the fact that Teignbridge currently has the lowest cases per 100k in England, but appreciate that it would be impossible to divide us up further. If, as expected, this decision was made
primarily based on healthcare capacity in the region then this is regrettable. We find ourselves in this situation due to historic underfunding of healthcare in the South West and a complete lack of understanding from Governments (of all colours) that a ‘one size fits all’ ...
approach doesn’t work, especially in rural areas. This pandemic should be a wake up call as to how we provide rural healthcare in the future." She says she will be voting against unless the Government provides the cost-benefit documentation of the tier system are provided
(Should clarify, that's from the Government statement as to explaining the reasons why Devon is in Tier 2)
With Devon being in Tier 2, it means that from next week, up to 2,000 fans will be allowed inside St James Park, Sandy Park, Plainmoor and Home Park. (Up to 4,000 fans in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly are allowed)
Reaction from @neil_parish - "I will be voting for the measures. I am glad that retail can reopen in our area ahead of Christmas, including our markets like in Tiverton Town Centre, and I am also glad our pubs serving meals and our restaurants can open too.
"The package of measures is also welcome so people can go back to church, play sport and do a lot more than under lockdown. I think everyone will be keen to review the tiers regularly and see if we can move down into tier 1.”
Reaction from @BenPBradshaw -“Given hardly any areas are in Tier 1, this is not surprising, but it will be extremely disappointing to many people, given Boris Johnson stupidly raised expectations of a greater relaxation. Devon’s figures are among the lowest in England, less than
half the English average and falling. I hope this decision has not been skewed by the current pressure on our hospitals because of a lack of staff and resources. I shall be asking the Health Secretary these questions in a Zoom meeting with him this afternoon.
"The Government must also publish the basis on which these decisions have been made and clear criteria for moving up or down tiers. The last tier system failed, which is why we had to go into another month’s national lockdown.
"The worst thing would be for this to fail again so we end up back in lockdown, especially when vaccines are now on the horizon. I will want to examine the detail and hear what Mr Hancock has to say before deciding how to vote.
"The problem with these votes, however, is they are on a take it or leave it basis and if the proposals are rejected, there would be no restrictions at all, which would be disastrous”
Simon Jupp says: "I’m very disappointed that Devon will be in Tier 2 from next Wed with a review 2 weeks after. I remain concerned by the pressure at the RD&E and I a in touch with the Chief Exec. Pubs, restaurants & the hospitality sector must receive enough support to survive."

As another week of lockdown passes, we've seen the drop off in cases we'd expect to see, as the number of new coronavirus cases confirmed across Devon and Cornwall have nearly halved in the previous seven days – with cases falling everywhere.
A total of 1,266 new cases have been confirmed across the two counties – the lowest since the week ending October 16 – and Friday’s figure of 97 cases is the first ‘double figure’ total since October 2. Cornwall, Plymouth, the South Hams and Torbay see a more than 50% drop.
Friday's figures of 97 are made up of 11 cases in Cornwall, 26 in East Devon, 11 in Exeter, 4 in Mid Devon, 16 in North Devon, 11 in Plymouth, 1 in Teignbridge, 10 in Torbay, 4 in Torridge, 4 in West Devon, and -1 for the South Hams, with no new cases, but one duplicate removed

Two weeks into Lockdown 2, and the highest number of weekly coronavirus cases confirmed in the last seven days across Devon and Cornwall has been recorded – but most areas are now seeing cases fall (and this week includes the weird Saturday where everything was double)
More than 2,000 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the last seven days across the two counties, taking the total since the beginning of the pandemic to 15,982.
Cases has risen everywhere, except for Torbay and West Devon, but when looking at cases by specimen date rather than reported date, only North Devon is seeing a rise - with five areas seeing a flat trend, and five areas seeing cases drop

It's Friday afternoon, and here's the weekly look back at the coronavirus figures across Devon and Cornwall, and cases have risen across the two counties (although only just in some places), but for the second week in a row, have fallen in Exeter
The total confirmed number of cases has today hit 10,000 across the two counties. It only crossed the 9,000 mark on Monday, with Friday's figures seeing 292 new cases. Plymouth’s figures rose over the 2,000 mark today. It hit 1,000 on October 5.
Government statistics show that 1,662 new cases have been confirmed across the region in the past seven days in both pillar 1 data from tests carried out by the NHS and pillar 2 data from commercial partners, compared to 1,395 new cases confirmed last week.

It's a Friday afternoon, so I bring you the weekly roundup of coronavirus data in Devon and Cornwall, and the total number of new coronavirus cases confirmed in the last seven days across Devon has risen – but with falls in Plymouth and Cornwall.
Government statistics show that 381 new cases have been confirmed across the region in the past seven days in both pillar 1 data from tests carried out by the NHS and pillar 2 data from commercial partners, compared to 365 new cases confirmed last week.
The number of new cases confirmed in Cornwall has fallen, going from 179 to 132 in the latest seven days, while Plymouth has seen cases more than half, dropping from 74 to 36.

There seems to be some confusion around the confirmation yesterday from Cornwall Council that 170 new cases were confirmed at the Pilgrim’s Pride food factory in Pool - as far as I know, these are not 'new cases' but the total of ones already reported
Since the first announcement about the outbreak, there have been 284 cases confirmed across the whole of Cornwall - the vast majority of which have been in and around the Camborne, Pool and Redruth area where there are currently eight areas where clusters of cases confirmed
The 170 new cases confirmed headline is scary, but also wrong. The 170 cases is the total linked to the factory in the last 2 weeks, and virtually all have already been accounted for in the figures that are provided daily, so there won't be a massive spike of 170 new cases

EXCLUSIVE - University of Exeter students living within the city are being asked not to meet indoors with anyone not part of their households for the next fortnight.
More than half of the cases confirmed in the previous week across Exeter are attributable to the University – mainly from students unwittingly arriving having already been infected elsewhere in the country and passing it onto the housemates.
The University, following discussions with Public Health England, Devon County Council and Exeter City Council, is asking students to take the additional measures to avoid further local restrictions, of the type already seen in a number of other universities.
