- An important religious symbol in many Hindu traditions that link the plant with goddess maha Lakshmi consort of vishnu

-“Tulasi” in Sanskrit literally means “the incomparable one”/"matchless sanctity"
-Tulsi is of two types
-Dark - Krishna or Shyama Tulsi
- White or light green - Rama Tulasi

-Tulsi plant possess a lot of medicinal value, the Krishna Tulsi has greater medicinal value and is commonly worshipped by Hindus.
“Tulasi Daivam Mahathmeeyam” – Tulasi in Itself is God, and the values are innumerable by counts – Sage Vyasa Maha rishi

-Having Tulsi plant in a home is considered as presence of Goddess Lakshmi herself
“Vishnu Tulasi Priya” – Krishna Yajur Veda

-It was a tradition that all ancient wealthy household and temple had
“Tulsi-van” /“Tulsi-vrindavan”

These designated places inmproves concentration and these were places ideal for doing japa and aradhanaa
-Every part of the Tulsi plant is revered and considered sacred
- Even the soil around the plant is holy
-The Padma Purana declares a person who is cremated with Tulsi twigs in his funeral pyre gains moksha and a place in Vishnu’s abode Vaikuntha
- GangaWater mixed with the Tulsi leaves is given to the dying at their last moments to raise their departing souls to heaven
- Any pitru karma like tharpanam, srardham Tulsi is a must component
- Even for gurus who had followed Sanayasa ashrama, they are buried under Tulsi plant this is called "Bridavana pavesam"

- guru attains Sadgati /moksha under the brindavana
-As per Indian tradition, Tulsi water is considered as a elixir which has ability to cure many ailments and diseases
- Tulsi water is compulsory to new born babe and lactating mothers
-Tulsi is a herb rich in clinical adaptogen
