.@LendleaseGroup responded to @mumbrellanews: ‘When it comes to advertising in our centres, we take all of our customers’ feedback seriously and always pass it on to our retailers.’
But @LendleaseGroup has repeatedly ignored us when we have objected to #HoneyBirdette’s porn-style ads. When we approached a Lendlease centre recently about a school holiday kids’ activity placed directly opposite #HoneyBirdette’s BDSM- & orgy-themed windows it did not respond.
‘All advertising is governed by @Ad_Standards, which can request the removal of advertising found in breach of the standards, and we continue to be guided by the regulator.'
'We encourage customers who are concerned about advertising to direct complaints to @Ad_Standards. We’ll continue to monitor customer and retailer feedback and adhere to any determinations made by Ad Standards.'
But that’s just more PR spin. Advertising is not ‘governed’ by anybody.
.@AdStandards rulings come long after #HoneyBirdette’s ads are replaced with new porn-themed ads. It has no power to bring repeat offenders like Honey Birdette into line, and repeatedly endorses its sexist, objectifying + even explicit ads.
.@LendleaseGroup is simply passing the buck to a powerless body @AdStandards which aids #HoneyBirdette’s recalcitrance.
.@scentregroup@westfieldAU renounced all duty of care or concern for community members regarding Honey Birdette’s larger-than-life porn style windows, stating:
‘How they express this brand through in-store window advertising is the responsibility of individual retailers.’
.@ScentreGroup@WestfieldAU also claimed to 'work closely' and 'discuss customer feedback' with its tenants so that “their decision-making is informed” by the community.
But #HoneyBirdette has proved repeatedly it doesn’t care about @ScentreGroup’s customers or the wider community, by repeatedly displaying degrading, objectifying representations of women for forced viewing by an all-age audience which includes children.
If @ScentreGroup@WestfieldAU is working closely and discussing feedback with its resident sex shop chain, why do #HoneyBirdette ads get more degrading with each campaign?
.@Scentre Group also raised @AANA_says revised Code of Ethics, saying it encouraged its retail partners to become familiar with it.
With 44 upheld Ad Standards rulings against - most for its failure to treat sex, sexuality and nudity with sensitivity to its audience - #HoneyBirdette has proved it has no respect for @AANA_says Code of Ethics. Revisions to the Code won't fix that.
Once again named @MaleChampions have hidden behind @AdStandards & their resident sex shop’s 'freedom to advertise' to deflect responsibility for #sexualharassment they aid, porn-style ads they host and #objectification of women they profit from.
We’re not buying it. Cross ‘em off your Christmas list.
And @malechampions - isn't it time you crossed them off too?
Reflecting on prevailing #sexism and gender inequality in the resources sector at #diggersndealers forum, @FortescueNews FMG CFO Elizabeth Gaines spoke out against having work gatherings at skimpy bars:
‘I don't know of many women who want to walk into that environment.’
‘You’ve got to have venues that are far more appropriate ... and actually reflective of society as a whole. Not #objectification of one part of society, and the other part of society looking on.’
