Here's how I differentiate between a true liberal and a true conservative:

Both are liberals in the classical sense, believing that individual liberty is paramount.

1/5
The liberal seeks to advance liberty by freeing the individual of the hardships and injustices that prevent one from reaching their potential. Government is a means to that end.

2/5
The conservative seeks to advance liberty largely by freeing the individual of the restraints placed on them by government. Government is a barrier.

3/5
Both seek the same end: flourishing of the human spirit under liberty.

The disagreement is on the mechanisms that can be used to realize that end.

4/5
Only in the warped political environment of the 21st century is there a binary distinction between liberal and conservative.

The dichotomy is a false one.

Here we have the total number of deaths in Canada over the past four years. The most recent 12 months of data do not suggest a spike in deaths relative to historical trends.

#COVID19Canada #COVID19 #Canada Image
Zooming out nationally over the past decade, we see that it's perfectly natural for deaths in one year to exceed deaths in the previous year.

***This does not necessarily = excess deaths.***

Look how often the blue growth line is above 0%. Image
So deaths are rising.

Is that due to population growth?

Population aging?

It's a bit of both, but not covid.

Ontario update

Data is 100% public and official, and fully cited.

#COVID19Canada #COVID19Ontario
Covid-19 still presents a risk primarily to the elderly, not to children and hardly to working-age adults.
The average age of a death by or with covid-19 is higher than life expectancy.

Deaths among those over 80 account for 69.4% of deaths by/with covid-19, but only 52.2% of all deaths (all causes) in 2018.

More deaths over 90 than under 80.

Hey @jerryagar1010, did you know that we have the Nuremberg Code to protect us from the sort of coercion that you are advocating?

And that it was developed in response to the horrific acts of literal Nazis?
Not to mention the high covid survival rates, particularly among the under-70s. (The true survival rates are even higher because this is only among those listed rightly or wrongly as "cases.")
Or that one's likelihood of dying from covid is comparable to one's likelihood of dying in the next 12 months.

Canada - Bear in mind that the risk of death will sadly always rise in line with one's advancing age.

In 2019, 8.9% of those in the over-80 age cohort passed away. Image
