Time for a very short story !!

Once a 14 year old kid, who used to deliver newspapers, told his family friend that if he doesn't become a millionaire by the age of 30, he'll jump of the tallest building of his city !

Sadly, he didn't become a millionaire by 30 ! 😔

I'm sure nobody even remembered his outrageous claim after 16 years but that child.....that child is now the age of your grandpa and is worth $85 Billion !!! 😮

He is the legend himself - Warren Buffett !

A short thread on Warren Buffett !

Warren Edward Buffett, also known as the "Oracle of Omaha" is the 4th richest man in the world as I'm writing this.

Born in 1930, in Omaha, USA, he went from being a newspaper delivery boy to the owner of Berkshire Hathaway, a $526 B conglomerate !

You'll be surprised to know that he didn't really had the need to deliver newspapers.

He was born in a decent middle class family but at the age of 6, he started delivering newspapers just to make some bucks !!

By the age of 17, he had earned $5000 which is equivalent to $58,000 !

That's about Rs.40,00,000, AT THE AGE OF 17, at which we were probably preparing for competition 😑

So he knew the value of compounding at a very young age !

Buffett bought his first stock at the age of 11, and made a small profit on it !

In college, he found his mentor Benjamin Graham, who is the author of 'The Intelligent Investor'. Buffett learned value investing from Benjamin Graham.

Buffett, who is one of the greatest investors of all time, is a huge proponent of Value Investing.

He believes in buying a stock for a deep discount from it's intrinsic value and holding it for as long as possible !

I can go on and on about Buffett but that won't do justice to his legend. There is a lot to learn from Buffett's life and principles.

You can search him on any platform you think of and learn about him and how he invests.

I'll definitely post more about him and what I've learnt from him in the future

Until then just type "Omaha" in the replies so that I can know who's really reading my thread till the end !

Also do retweet this post so that more people know about him !

Have an amazing day !

24 Dec
On this 21st of December, when the Nifty shed 400+ points in a single day, there was a lot of panic on the news etc.

I heard an analyst say that this could be because of the "December Effect" !

What is this December Effect and why you should know about it ?

1/n
#marketcrash
The December Effect, more commonly known as the "January Effect" is a seasonal decrease in share prices in the month of December and an increase in prices in the month of January !

This is a very popular hypothesis but what's the logic behind it ?

2/n
#january #december
The logic behind this is that in Dec, investors sell there loss making shares to set off taxes against capital gains, causing the market to fall.

Then, in the next year buy those shares back, thus causing a rise in prices in January !

Sounds legit ! 🤔

When I say McDonald's, what comes to your mind ?

Burgers, right ?

But if I tell you that McDonald's is not a burger company.....will you be surprised ?

Then you should be, because IT ISN'T A BURGER COMPANY !!

(1/n)
#burger #mcdonalds
Yes, McDonald's isn't a Burger company bcoz most of the revenue that McDonald's makes doesn't come from selling burgers !

Then what does it come from ?

Let's take a look at it's financial statements !

(2/n)
#revenue #financials Image
If you take a look at the revenue breakdown, out of $21B in total revenue, about $9.4B comes from "company operated restaurants" i.e. from selling burgers !

The remaining revenue of about $11.6B comes from Franchise Royalty and Rent !!
