There is an old saying in that when people show you who they are - believe them the first time, and for @caylanford she has demonstrated clearly that her transphobic rhetoric and ignorance is nothing less than disgustingly appalling. #LGBT
What experts such as @caylanford seam to ignore are the 43% of trans and gender diverse youth whom report not having a single person they feel safe talking with about their gender identity or expression.
Experts like @caylanford also ignore that 41% of transgender or gender diverse youth have attempted suicide, with 73% reporting engaging in self harm behaviours - and she has the disgusting audacity to call these individuals a social contagion.
Perhaps @caylanford as a former aspiring politician would care to read up on how transgender Canadians are more likely to experience violence by the age of 15, and are more likely to experience inappropriate behaviour in public, online, and at work than those who are cisgender.
To help @caylanford even further perhaps she can take note of the fact that sexual minority Canadians are more likely to experience physical or sexual assault by the age of 15, but are less likely to report to police.
What @caylanford also blatantly ignores is that as of September 2020, those whom identify as sexual minorities are three times more like to experience violent victimization than heterosexual or cisgender individuals.
Perhaps @caylanford would like to bring her expertise to the forefront and chat about the 45% of transgender and gender diverse Canadians who had unmet healthcare needs as of January 31, 2020 as per @transpulseca#lgbt#yyc#abpoli#ableg
Let’s also get @caylanford to use her expert opinion on addressing how gender diverse and sexual minority youth are over represented in the homeless youth population, as result of many being cast away by parents or fleeing their homes for safety concerns.
Tell us again @caylanford what the real social contagion is within our society - it most certainly is NOT all those whom you just cast aside and invalidated with your personal prejudice and transphobic rhetoric, perhaps think about engaging the community you want to speak for.
