Happy 2021 and good morning from New York's Penn Station! I've spent countless hours of my life waiting for trains in this underground dump.
That ends today. Sort of. Let's go take a look at the new Moynahan Train Hall, officially opened as of today 🎉
First off is the new @LIRR concourse entrance on 7th Ave. It's a grand entrance with a great piece of artwork - a map!
Moynihan Train Hall has several new entrances along 8th Avenue. These entrances opened a little while ago for access to @LIRR's West End Cooridor but now allow full access to the train hall.
The Moynihan Train Hall, in all its finally open glory
This kiosk in the new Moynihan Train Hall tries to answer the age old tourist question of "how do I get to my airport?"
It does it very poorly. This needs work.
Here's the regular @Amtrak waiting room for ticketed passengers only. Very nice space.
.@Amtrak had opened a new Metropolitan Lounge for Acela First Class and select long distance passengers.
The best compliment I've heard is "it looks like an airline lounge." In this case, it's a big compliment. #PaxEx
So Moynihan Train Hall isn't actually that useful for @LIRR passengers. You can't access tracks 17-21 from it, instead you have to exit and head back to the West End Cooridor.
This really is almost exclusively Amtrak access with a sprinkle of LIRR.
And now my tour of the new Penn Station Moynihan Train Hall ends with a walk back through regular Penn Station. Take it all in!
This waiting room is also open to ticketed @LIRR passengers, but the signage really doesn't make that clear
There are SO many different forms of digital schedule signage throughout Penn Station now. All sorts of shapes and sizes. There's really a lack of uniformity, but that's nothing new to Penn Station.
In summary, New York Pennsylvania Station now consists of:
The old LIRR concourses
The NJ Transit concourse
The West End Corridor
The old Amtrak concourse
The new Amtrak Moynihan Train Hall
The 1/2/3 subway station
The A/C/E subway station
It's still a maze-like, confusing mess

The @flightradar24 data for #PS752 ends with the airspeed staying constant but the altitude increasing before suddenly cutting out. Nothing stands out at a glance.
Here we go! #Super80Sendoff is underway. I'm at @DFWAirport to join @AmericanAir as it celebrates the end of MD80/Super80 "Mad Dog" service.
Will be headed out to Roswell, New Mexico to watch the final flights land.
Does anyone know what happened to GPS/ADS-B last night? The issue seemed to be quite widespread with a lot of aircraft grounded.
Something very strange happened.
Lucky that this happened late on a Saturday night. Has this happened on a weekday this would have been leading headlines on national news. Some sort of GPS fault grounded a chunk of the US commercial fleet and hardly anybody noticed.
.@EWRairport is efficiency closed right now after an aircraft landed with reports of an onboard fire and evacuation on the runway.
I'm guessing it's this @airtransat 737 on 4R.
#TS942 made a very rapid descent into @EWRairport. No word on whether it was an actual fire or just an indication. Either way, superb job by the crew to get it on the ground very quickly.
