INBOX: Wake County Schools issues a statement about the Capitol protests. This is the notification sent to families. 1/4 #wcpss
District statement reads in part:
"We have a responsibility to understand how this is a teachable moment, a moment that strengthens public education, and a moment that also acknowledges this crisis in our democracy."
No mention that parents should first 'teach' this moment.

Links to "Psychological First Aid" & "civil discourse" resources follow the statement.
Pretty sure no such resources were offered during the riots that persisted throughout 2020. 3/4
This was the last tweet of the night for Raleigh PD.
Going by records I was able to locate, there were 15 arrests with ties to the protest. Most included violating the curfew put in place by Mayor Baldwin.
Exum, Aaron Oliver, 26 of Chapel Hill, violating curfew and disorderly conduct.
Multiple prior arrests going back to 2011 - the most serious are assault on a female, battery of unborn child, assault on a female.
Gilmore, Deeshone Lamont Jamal, 27 of Raleigh, violating curfew.
He has an extensive priors list going back to 2010 that includes murder (2015), marijuana possession w. intent to distribute, breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods.
#WCPSS still hasn't answered my Qs on where the BIMAS-2 data is stored, who has access, how it is being used but they have put up this worthless FAQ: wcpss.net/Page/41740
One of my favs... only true if you actually were notified.
If not, they automatically screen your kid.
Also, your kid's psychological assessment is sitting on a "secure server" somewhere in #WCPSS.
Official in Guilford County says commissioners & BOE members there were just notified that @GCSchoolsNC Supt. @scontrerasGCS approved busing students to voting locations to allegedly 'influence the Dem primary'.
@GCSchoolsNC@scontrerasGCS GCS Board Member Khem Irby: "As a parent of an eligible voter, I was given a permission slip. This initiative was disclosed in prior meetings in 2019."
Last panel of the PS1NC forum .
First speaker is Richard Kahlenberg of the "Century Foundation."
He starts out by mocking the 'days of the racist tea party'.
The Century Foundation is a "progressive nonpartisan" think tank.
The board includes former Obama adviser Mark Zuckerman & Ed Sec John King.
Kahlenberg says "diversity makes us smarter."
Kahlenberg is referring to the 1966 Coleman report that said Socioeconomic status is the biggest predictor of Ed success.
Also a 2019 report that reasserts that.
Doesn't address that despite integration, achievement has stalled.
Back from the break at the PS1NC 'privatization of public schools' forum.
Up now is a panel of teachers, all of whom are affiliated with the NCAE, Red4Ed or both.
Red4Ed leader Angie Scioli is giving written remarks throwing shade on charters, claiming dirty classrooms, nepotism, and sketchy benefits.
Scioli was one of several who helped foment the May Day strike this year.
Scioli gives anonymous anecdotes of charter teachers bring untrained and schools bring "dumpster fires."
