Official in Guilford County says commissioners & BOE members there were just notified that @GCSchoolsNC Supt. @scontrerasGCS approved busing students to voting locations to allegedly 'influence the Dem primary'.

@GCSchoolsNC @scontrerasGCS One report of this also showed up on Facebook:

@GCSchoolsNC @scontrerasGCS GCS Board Member Khem Irby: "As a parent of an eligible voter, I was given a permission slip. This initiative was disclosed in prior meetings in 2019."

NC Law:
"17 year-olds may vote in a primary election if they will be 18 at the time of the general election."

I've confirmed that at least one activity bus has been tasked to take such 17 YO's to the polls on Super Tuesday.

I've been told that this group is who helped planned the busing of students to the polls in Guilford County:

I am waiting on the school board to confirm this.

According to GCPS's website, "GCS Student Voters Experience Democracy in Action" and "GCS has partnered with You Can Vote, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization"

The organization may be nonpartisan, but its board is not.
FollowTheMoney.org shows that board members have made thousands of dollars in donations only to Democrat candidates.

I have asked the GCSB for comment. Stay tuned.
It appears that "You Can Vote" has been funded by the Left-leaning People's Alliance Fund "for the last five years" which would account for the lack of 990 forms for YCV.

"The 501c(3) fund financially supports progressive educational and research activities in Durham and other North Carolina communities"
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Peopl…
In fact, People's Alliance, also called Durham People's Alliance or DPA, split off "You Can Vote" in the middle of last year:
durhampa.org/you_can_vote_n…
The announcement credits Jennifer McGovern with managing "You Can Vote’s finances on a volunteer basis as its annual budget grew more than twenty-five times its initial size."
$8,200 in political contributions by McGovern went to Democrats.
UPDATES on #Guilford schools busing kids to the polls.
I have confirmed the following:
- GCS board did not approve or vote on busing kids to the polls
- State Board of elections was only notified today by Guilford election officials

#GCPS board members are trying to figure out who is paying for transport, how it is being organized and who is chaperoning.
I am told a busing schedule for every school day for each school is floating around. I am trying to acquire it.

In addition, #GCPS Vice Chair Welborn has posted about the busing on her Facebook page that she didn't know about the busing going on. Read her post here:

#GCPS Board member Pat Tillman commented on Welborn's post, said he was shocked to find this out "second hand and through the proverbial "grapevine"."

Apparently, Supt. Contreras mentioned a partnership with "You Can Vote" at the Nov. 2019 Board meeting.
She mentioned educational interactions and nothing about busing.

See around the 3:58:10 mark

Contreras said the following about You Can Vote:

I did receive a schedule for busing kids in #GCPS to the polls, but not all schools are included.

RECAP
- Board did not vote on this or approve it
- State board of elections was not told until today
- No answer on how/why Supt. Contreras contradicted her Nov. remarks
One last update for this evening - According to a Guilford County election official, a GCS staffer contacted him on Feb 13 late in the day.
He received the schedule of schools/students on the morning of the 17th.

Update on Guilford schools busing kids to the polls.

I've just learned that NCAE Organize 2020 leader/ GCAE President Todd Warren is involved with You Can Vote.

The district still has not answered how/why the group was chosen.

"This past year the project partnered with You Can Vote, a voter registration advocacy group, and set up voter registration events at 20 schools across the county."

What schools? Who? When? #nced
