We stereotype mass shootings as being in the Columbine mode with a white guy with a scary rifle sticking around to finish off the wounded because he expects to die or spend the rest of his life in prison.
Those type are horrifically memorable but statistically rare.

Statistical databases of incidents in which 4 people are shot are dominated not by Columbine-like atrocities but by black-on-black shootings in which, typically, an angry black guy fires wildly into a crowd of blacks hoping to kill the guy who dissed him, then runs away.
Unsolved mass shootings are particularly likely to be black-on-black because of the snitches-get-stitches culture, so nobody saw nothing.

One oddity of 2020 that probably is related to the pandemic closing schools and churches is that classic white guy Columbine-style mass killing shootings dwindled virtually to zero, as Dave Chappelle pointed out.
Instead, 2020 saw a huge increase after George Floyd's death in the type of mass shootings that have all the hallmarks of being run-of-the-mill black-on-black mass shootings: cops can't get anybody to talk, high ratio of wounded to killed, happened in black neighborhoods etc.
