70 countries have reported cases of B.1.1.7 (53 of which have sequences on GISAID). New reports today of lineage B.1.1.7 from South Africa, Senegal and Kuwait: , reuters.com/article/health…, reuters.com/article/health…
pangolin assigned B.1.1.7 to 35,649 sequences on GISAID from 53 countries. 33,153 of those sequences are from the UK. As of today, Jordan, Thailand and Malaysia are represented on GISAID in addition to countries previously sharing B.1.1.7 sequences.
As of today, 31 countries have reported cases of lineage B.1.351 (22 represented by sequences on GISAID). Newly reported are cases of B.1.351 from Panama and the USA: reuters.com/article/us-hea…, live5news.com/2021/01/28/hea… @dmaccannell
There are 698 sequences on GISAID that have been assigned B.1.351 from 20 countries. 524 of those sequences are from South Africa (@houzhou).
There are reports of lineage P.1 from a total of 8 countries. Still unclear whether P.1 is the 'Brazilian variant' Hancock describes here: bbc.co.uk/news/uk-557864… Shows yet another reason why we shouldn't be referring to lineages/ clades/ variants/ clusters by location.
No increase in sequences today on GISAID assigned lineage P.1: Brazil (28), Japan (4), Italy (3), Faroe Islands (1), USA (1) and South Korea (1).
