Last week I was fortunate to have the opportunity to volunteer as a Spanish interpreter at a #YoloCounty#COVID19#vaccination clinic. It was truly exciting to contribute to ending the #pandemic, and I thought I'd share what it was like. Photo of drive-thru vaccination area. (1/7
First the volunteers arrived (~50 of us), checked in, and were given vests with colors corresponding to our roles. We swore to support and defend the Constitution! Photo of Loyalty Oath. (2/7) #HealthForAll
It was fascinating - we were organized to each perform relatively simple tasks individually and thus collectively performed the complex task of getting people vaccinated. Photo of "Medical Points of Dispensing" (MPOD) organization structure. (3/7) #COVID19Vaccine
I was the Spanish Interpreter at the Greeter 2 station, where we made sure people correctly filled out release forms which they were given at Greeter 1. We began in the late afternoon and ended after dark, vaccinating several hundred people. (4/7)
It felt very safe for volunteers (thank you @YoloCountyCA!) The #drivethruClinic was exclusively outdoors, all members of the public remained in their cars the entire time, volunteers were given face shields, and we had plenty of hand sanitizer and disinfection products. (5/7)
Considering out current political climate, the vaccination clinic location was not well-marked from the street. All volunteers were given a code to communicate on our walkie talkies if we observed unusual behavior that might require a lead manager's attention. (6/7)
I'd like to end this thread with a call to action. We all need to work together to contribute to the end of this pandemic: #WearAMask and #StayAtHome! Volunteer! Ask what you can do -- share your lab equipment or fundraise to buy -80 freezers with your local or rural clinic! (7/7
