If you have power. Please turn everything down as much as possible.

Turn off lights, unplug stuff you're not using. Turn down your A/C a few degrees.

This will help us restore power to everyone.
Actually unplug wall-warts from the wall if they are not actively powering something.

They still drain a half watt or so even when not in use.
I'm shutting down my computer and just using my phone in a few minutes.

It's a bright day outside. Open the curtains and read a book.

Please do what you can.
This tweet is meant for EVERYONE in TEXAS. Not just Houston.

Everyone on ERCOT... 😞

Just got off statewide elected officials call with ERCOT. Trying to relay from memory:

-17 GigaWatt still off line.
-Trying to bring stuff back on line ASAP.
-Combination of gas, coal, solar, wind, and nukes went off line. (Nukes?)
-500 MW (0.5GW) came back during the call
Sun warming up wind turbine blades and shed off ice that formed during cold rain will put wind farms back on line quickly.

Water vapor in gas lines freezing up sensors and regulators in LNG plants.

LNG well heads frozen at the pump.

All cold related outage.
There were cold related measures taken after the freeze of 2011.

But the measures were for 2011 level storm.

2021 far exceeded what was planned or expected.

Just didn't expect this cold and across the entire state.

You can dismiss 1 poll.
You can dismiss 2 polls.
You can dismiss 5 polls.
You can dismiss 10 polls.

But at some point you're going to have to admit that TEXAS IS THE BIGGEST BATTLEGROUND STATE!

We can do this!
Turn Texas Blue!
As a reminder...

In 2016 Texas went for Trump by nearly double digits... Texas hasn't had a statewide elected Democrat for almost 3 decades.

The very idea that a Dem candidate is even in play in Texas is utter insanity.

But all things are possible with the Orange Lord.
You know this is not a joke because the Trump campaign and state Republicans are taking this seriously.

Trump just came in to Texas on a bus tour.

Trump is running lots of ads on TV.

Trump may be an idiot, but his people are not.

Texas is in play, THEY know it.

Look, I know you don’t want to think about this stuff, but we need to talk about: “What happens if you get really sick or, God forbid, die.”

Some things to think about:
📃A Will
📃Living Will
📃Medical POA
📃Statutory Durable POA
📃Declaration of Guardian for Children
Note: I'm not a probate attorney. But, most of this stuff is really basic.

Much of it is listed on the Texas Bar website and other associated state government websites.

Everyone's situation is different. When in doubt, call a lawyer. (Not me, I mean a good one.)
2nd Note: I'm cribbing a lot of this stuff from the Houston Volunteer Lawyers' notes. Follow: @HVLPtweets

They deserve the credit. makejusticehappen.org

They have an online consulting if you need to talk to a lawyer but can't afford it. I'll post at the end.

I do not revel in Rep. Rick Miller's retirement today.

His statement about Asian Americans were divisive, insulting, and hurtful to the growing Asian American community in Texas.

Unfortunately, his statement reflect a common mindset about minority communities.

#txlege
It is common gossip in the legislature that Rick Miller's seat was specifically drawn, in 2011, to prevent an Asian American from winning in the Republican Primary.

This exact situation played itself out in the 2012 primaries.

Over time this protection has been eroded.
My predecessor, Scott Hochberg, testified under oath during the 2011 Re-districting lawsuit, that Pct. 311 in my area was specifically cut out to prevent an Asian challenger from rising.

He didn't request this.

But, he was told that they were "helping" him stay in office.

People crapping on @BetoORourke for not beating Cruz in 2018 need to Google what "Pyrrhic Victory" means.

Beto's work helped @texasdemocrats crush the GOP in every major county in the state.

There are ZERO county-wide elected R's in the largest county in the state (Harris).
Just for perspective - 6 years apart:

2012 - Presidential - Cruz by 16
2018 - Midterm - Cruz by 2.5

Laugh & gloat all you want... @texasdemocrats are comin' for ya.
Texas Legislature - House Democrats gained...

12 freaking seats... in a MIDTERM election in a DEEP RED STATE.

About a half dozen Rs scraped by less than a point.

One won by 47 votes...
