Observations: Countries Participating in @PakistanNavy's #AMANExercise2021 (Thread)
#AMAN2021 has representation from all continents except Antarctica and Australia.

Majority of participants belong to Asia and its various sub-regions while the second highest regional representation is from Europe.
Highest sub-regional participation in #AMAN2021 from the Asian continent was West Asia (including 'Middle East') while the least was Southeast Asia.
Interestingly, 36 out of 45 participating countries in #AMAN2021 (~76%) are also part of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

Data source for BRI plotting: Nedopil, Christoph (2021): “Countries of the Belt and Road Initiative”; Beijing, IIGF Green BRI Centre (updated Jan 2021).

1/n Mr Scott Perry, US Rep for Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional District, has introduced a bill to recognise Tibet Autonomous Region of China as a 'separate, independent country'. The timing coincides with the Indo-China skirmish in Galwan Valley.

1/n A wild thought amidst efforts to revive the economy during COVID-19:

Encourage real estate giants for land reclamation in Pak's extended continental shelf thereby setting up a small archipelago which could be used for (1) housing fishermen, (2) promoting de-urbanisation.
2/n Imagine an entire island (or several) reserved by the government to serve as a remote 'quarantine camp' for people affected by a biohazard or other disaster, where they could live peacefully with dignity until they're fit for mainland social integration again.
3/n One island could serve as an exclusive regional marine ecology research hub for the entire Indian Ocean Region.

'Stratejik Araştırmalar Merkezi' (Centre for Strategic Research), an official think tank of the Turkish MFA, recently published a booklet on 'Post COVID-19 Global System: Old Issues, New Trends'.

I will translate/highlight some of the excerpts I found most noteworthy.

[Thread]
From the Foreword by Turkish FM Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu:

"COVID-19 has the potential to lead to a transformation in many areas, the effects of which could be felt for many years".
From 'Global Trends after Coronavirus' by Mr Ufuk Ulutas (Head of SRC):

"COVID-19 will cause paradigm shifts similar to those caused by 9/11 attacks and global financial crisis of 2008/2009 instead of a systemic breakdown as witnessed in 1st/2nd World Wars or end of Cold War..."
