"How can an unlimited supply market with billions of gifs and images possibly be investible?"
This was my biggest hurdle till I realized this.
Thread π
1/ 2018. People seriously started to collect Art NFTs.
I remember the sentiment in my groups changing from broader NFT topics to everyone but me being art obsessed.
I didn't get it due to the above question.
But decided to look deeper.
2/ I'm not a traditional art collector so I had 100 questions.
What makes art valuable?
There's millions of art work in the world but why is a Picasso or Banksy worth millions?
I watched a couple doco's and it started to click.
3/ 'Activate investor brain'
- Buying art is like seed investing in an artists career.
- Artist does big things, people come after early art.
- If they manage their supply well then demand > supply.
- If they become icons of a special era then HUGE long term potential demand.
4. Investor Brain: "But Matty can't the artist just mint 50,000 pieces of art at any time which would mess up supply"?
Well, yes investors brain.
That's why you go for artists that manage their supply well and have a healthy balance of career progression and art minting.
5. So buying art is like joining an artist on their journey.
Suddenly you, the other collectors and the artist are a team helping each other connect, network and grow.
Right now, the NFT Art space particularly seems to be at the start of a whole new digital era.
6. It's the first time in history of this universe, Digital Art can be collected and transacted between artists and collectors with all transactions recorded publicly, forever, on #blockchain.
So if that's the case we're centuries early witnessing this phenomenon unfold.
7/ Records are being broken, news and media are desperate for coverage, certain artists are becoming the face of this movement.
= HUGE collector potential.
Mix this in with crypto-natives becoming stinking rich, 15+ years of social media maturity and blockchain.
8/ You've got the potential for INSANE growth.
Like picking up the biggest diamond in the world that museums will be desperate to buy.
Collectors are interested in things they like, emotions and stories. The stories and 'moments in time' being captured right now are legendary
9/ So as Christie's conduct the Beeple auction, a whole lot of traditional art collectors are about to realize how serious this space is.
If even a fraction of the sentiment from traditional art collecting moves towards Digital art collecting then it's gonna light this place up.
10/ And then you mix bitcoin/crypto potentially 10x'ing from here.
When that happens, people tend to splurge. Diversification they call it.
What better things to splurge on than digital art that's iconic and on blockchain?
11/ So for me digital art collecting,
- Is collecting art I love and 'moments in time' I think will be iconic,
- Hedges me against any crypto moons I miss out on,
- Allows me to get in touch/communicate with artists and collectors directly.
12/ It's also the biggest thing I've ever been part of. Tons of fun, support, innovation and re-writing rules together.
We can actually do something about the shitty old systems in place and change lives.
Just sharing my thoughts, hope it helps!
