The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 19 February 2021 (Week 7) was 13,809.

This was

▪️ 2,182 higher than the five-year average for Week 7

Of the 13,809 deaths registered in Week 7,  4,079 mentioned #COVID19 on the death certificate (29.5% of all deaths).

This has fallen by 1,612 #COVID19 deaths since the previous week ow.ly/iOSk50DNzT8

Of the 4,079 deaths involving #COVID19, 85.7% had this recorded as the underlying cause of death.

Of the 3,430 deaths involving influenza and pneumonia, 8.5% had these as the underlying cause ow.ly/ncyv50DNzVo

Of deaths involving #COVID19 registered in 2020 and up to Week 7, 89,070 deaths (69.0%) occurred in hospitals.

The remainder mainly occurred in

▪️ private homes (6,894)

The number of deaths involving #COVID19 decreased in all English regions.

The South East of England recorded the largest decrease ow.ly/RgCR50DNA3p

In Wales, deaths registered involving #COVID19 in Week 7 was 179.

This has fallen since the previous week (216 deaths) ow.ly/iD7L50DNA5s

In England, 122,947 deaths that occurred up to 19 Feb 2021 (registered up to 27 February) involved #COVID19.

@PHE_uk reported 107,116 #COVID19 death occurrences in this time (notified by 1 March, where death occurred within 28 days of a positive test) ow.ly/hbXn50DNA7s

In Wales, 7,458 deaths that occurred up to 19 Feb 2021 (registered up to 27 Feb) involved #COVID19.
