(1) Loof Science II - Chapter 7: What does the scent dog and HRD evidence say about our top suspects?
Steven Avery
Brendan Dassey
Scott Tadych
Bobby Dassey
Ryan Hillegas
Scott Bloedorn
Rogue Law Enforcement
(2) Overall, the Scent and HRD Dog evidence is:
Highly Inculpatory for Rogue Law Enforcement: it shows them planting cremains while the property was under Police Custody.
Inculpatory of Ryan Hillegas: showing he led Law Enforcement to the RAV4 on 11/04.
(3) The evidence is also:
Highly Exculpatory for Brendan and Bobby Dassey: it shows Brendan's so-called confession is totally false, and it provides evidence of malfeasance not involving either Brendan or Bobby.
Exculpatory for Steven Avery and Scott Tadych.
(4) The initial revision of my Suspect Analysis table is shown below.
(5) Highlights of the analysis:
Tracks #3, #4, #5 and #6 were highly inculpatory of Rogue Law Enforcement, revealing a cover-up at Kuss Rd Suspected Burial Site (#3 v. #5) and showing the cremains planting track appearing overnight (#4 v. #6).
(6) However, my best working theory is that Rogue Law Enforcement planted the cremains in Steven's burn pit to cover-up their own mistakes at the Kuss Rd. burial site.
(7) They didn't notice the cremains during the excavation, because they expected to find Teresa's body, in tact. The Rogue Law Enforcement personnel only learned of their mistake when the HRD dog alerted on the excavated dirt.
(8) Sgt. Bill Tyson of CASO reports that the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office's Lt. Lenk and Sgt. Colborn were the ones involved with the digging, along with Tyson.
I suspect Tyson left after everyone was notified, just before 5:00pm, that the site was not "pertinent".
(9) In addition, K9 Brutus alerted at one of the RAV4 passenger side doors, then followed the scent trail over the berm to the south. This provides some corroboration of the defense's blood planting scenario, though not strong evidence. The damaged weatherstripping is stronger.
(10) While we're on the subject of weatherstripping, I'll remind you that exterior photos of the RAV4 cannot show us damage to the softer interior wiper edge of the weatherstripping, so we cannot determine if the damage was there when police took custody.
(11) For Ryan Hillegas, Track #1-A is the most inculpatory.
It is the egress path from where the RAV4 was hidden by the pond out to Jambo Creek Road, northbound.
(12) From other evidence, we suspect Ryan drove to the Avery Auto Salvage Yard, after being called by Law Enforcement at about 3:11pm on 11/04.
This was immediately after the flyover failed to provide visual confirmation of the RAV4's presence.
(13) Based on his phone records, Ryan arrives in the area around 4:15pm, 64 minutes later. It's about a 40 minute drive from Hilbert, WI, where Ryan was staying at Teresa's home.
The working theory is that he was going to verify the location of the RAV4 for Law Enforcement.
(14) Track #1-B may be the ingress route for this expedition by Ryan. He may have tried to retrace his steps in finding the RAV4, using this ingress route: parking at "B", exploring Wilmer's perimeter ("C") and then around "B", then moving his vehicle to the deer stands ("A").
(15) On ingress, he entered the salvage yard just west of the RAV4, but then left by a slightly different path.
This nicely fits all of Track #1.
(16) There are two problems with this explanation. First, Ryan must have found the RAV4 on an earlier trip to the yard.
This would have had to have happened the evening of 11/03-04, after Ryan learned about Avery from Teresa's computer or the police.
(17) The timeline for finding the RAV4 the night of 11/03-04 is pretty tight. Ryan broke into Teresa's phone account, pored through her computer, called Kelly Pitzen at 7:18pm, even though he claims he was at Teresa's home with her.
(18) What was Ryan doing the evening of 11/03-04?
If the tracks by the RAV4 were Ryan's, he also could have been the unidentified man who planted the RAV4 according to Wilmer Siebert.
This would explain why he knew where it was.
(19) So if our working theory is correct about the 22 "NO CALL ID" incoming calls, then Ryan at least:
Trespassed on the Avery's property, 11/03-04.
Performed an illegal search in collaboration with Law Enforcement, 11/04.
Perjured himself in a capital murder trail.
(20) My working theory for why Loof tracked Ryan, is what I call "The Contaminated Scent Article" theory.
(21) "It takes very little contamination from other humans to corrupt the quality of a scent article. Couple [that with] the contaminator being the freshest trail out and you have a basis for a scent article failure; in other words, the dog may simply follow that freshest trail."
(22) Two Men and a Cat were living in Teresa's home when her shoes were gathered by an untrained LEO, seven days after she went missing.
It's possible Ryan was using Teresa's bedding, picking up her scent, and distributing his in the form of dead skin cells and excretions.
(23) Teresa's scent would be transferred to the killer, during the ordeal, but also to her belonging, including the scent article. Teresa's scent would also include that of her pet cat, Mila.
(24) Someone living at Teresa's home would have Teresa's scent transferred to him/her from her belongings, including the floor, and both Teresa and that someone would pick up the scent of Mila, her cat.
That someone could also contaminate the scent article directly.
(25) We can't know for sure, but in the absence of Teresa's scent, would Loof follow the contaminator's scent, especially if it was the freshest?
Would Loof follow someone who had Teresa's scent transferred to them by intimate contact with her belongings since their last shower?
(26) Dog trainers say, "Some dogs would." Trainers encourage exercises with contaminated scent objects to learn what your dog will do with a known situation, and to train them to behave more effectively.
(27) When we reviewed working theories for Loof's behavior, her most likely problems were handling contaminated scent articles and her recent training w/human remains.
Loof did not follow the freshest trail in areas contaminated w/fresh trails, and Loof had trained for that.
(28) The contaminated scent article and the transferred scent theory explains why Ryan Hillegas would be leaving trails that Loof followed. We suspect he left Track #1, but what other tracks may be his.
Was Ryan near the Kuss Road cul-de-sac burying cremains (Track #5)?
(29) Did Ryan plant the cremains in the Dassey Burn Barrel, mistaking their home for Avery's?
Did Ryan later plant the burned electronics in Steven Avery's burn barrel, when he had found his mistake?
(30) My working theory is that the cremains planted in the Dassey burn barrel were a mistake made by the killer who didn't know which home was Steven's, because the AutoTrader address was for his sister.
The electronics were planted next, to make sure they implicated Steven.
(31) Of course the Contaminated Scent Article and Scent Transfer theory is speculative, and would require substantial corroboration to make it more definite.
So how do we find corroboration for the scent trails?
The call to fight injustice unites the world in a righteous cause.
Might for right. Not might makes right.
Thank you for your interest and help.
(2) Well it took a long time, but I finally re-reviewed all the dog scent and alert data with the new knowledge I received from Jeff Young. The pandemic delayed me, but I was not deterred.
(3) I looked at each track under multiple working theories:
- Tracking or Air Trailing
- Teresa's Scent
- Freshest Scent Trail
- Contaminator of Scent Article/Carrier of Teresa's Scent
- Other training goal (drugs/human remains/explosives)
(1) Loof Science II - Chapter 8: Call to Action re Operation Dog Nose and Operation Minelab
Cremains likely remain along many of the Loof Tracks. A top HRD dog could help us find them.
The Tracks also provide places to look for Buried Evidence w/a SotA Metal Detector.
(2) One thing Jeff Young told me about his Scent and HRD dog Zoe was how far K9 training had progressed since 2005 and how sensitive Zoe's nose was for cremains.
I believe Jeff said he had worked cases with 10 year old cremains and felt 20 year old cremains were possible.
(3) We think Teresa's cremains were buried at the Kuss Rd. Burial Site because the uprooted tree hole was easy to dig out, and then excavated by Law Enforcement and carried to the berm, and on to Steven's burn pit.
(1) Loof Science II - Chapter 6: Putting it all together
What do we know and what do we suspect based on the scent dog evidence in the Teresa Halbach murder case?
(2) Chapter 6 - Part 1: Defense Failures
The failure of the defense to use the Scent and HRD Dog evidence:
- To strengthen their argument about planted bones,
- To show the importance of the Kuss Rd. burial site, and
- To poke large holes in the state's case is immense.
(3) The defense should have introduced Tracks #3 & #4 (top) & #5 & #6 (bottom) and corroborated them with the HRD alerts on the excavated dirt at the suspected burial site, and the mysteriously appearing trail from the deer camp back to the berm, SW of Steven's yard (#4 v. #6).
(1) Loof Science II - Chapter 5: A more speculative theory about Tracks #1-A and #1-B
What if the person who laid Track #1-A, came back later and tried to retrace his/her steps, and that created Track #1-B, or vice versa.
(2) Our current theory of the 22 calls is that Ryan H claimed to have discovered the RAV4 on 11/03 or 11/04, and then came back, perhaps with Mike H, to confirm its location for Law Enforcement.
(3) Perhaps Track #1-A was Ryan Hillegas coming back out after finding or planting the RAV4, and Track #1-B was Ryan trying to retrace his steps with Mike Halbach.
Without a scent dog, Ryan would retrace the path imperfectly.
(1) Chapter 4: Track #1, the path leading out from and back to the RAV4's location by the pond.
(2) There is a lot to unpack regarding Track #1:
11/1-3:
Wilmer Siebert
A White Jeep
11/4:
22 NO CALLER ID Calls
Lights in the Pit
11/4-5:
Blood Planting Scenarios
11/5:
The Camera & Pam-of-God
Known Foot Traffic
Tarp-On/Tarp-Off
K9 Brutus
11/7:
K9 Loof, Tracks #1 & #4
(3) Chapter 4, Part 1, The suspected planting of the RAV4 via Jambo Creek Road.
Wilmer Siebert lives off of Jambo Creek Road, next to the entrance to the Radandt Quarry, and just south of the Avery Auto Salvage Yard property (see red box labeled "C" below).
