#EllenKuras - 1st time I met Ellen was at a now defunct (?) Women in Film org event. I was ridiculously excited to meet her. Prob best known for #EternalSunshine but was #Unzipped that wow’d. Revolutionized how I viewed docs. Here’s Mizrahi & Eartha Kitt
#SandiSissel. We all watched #SalaamBombay. Keeping tabs on Sandi’s career introduced me to 2nd Unit DP opportunities. I admired her versatility moving from indie film to #MasterAndCommander. Two visual worlds I love to play in.
#JessieMaple. There is no me without Jessie. My thread from a few years ago.
#TamiReiker - everyone is talking about Tami & #OneNightinMiami and #TheOldGuard. My personal fav of hers is #HighArt. Saw it while or shortly after film school. Probably why I use photogs as visual reference for film more than other films.
#KiraKelly - I know Kira from NYC. She was the perfect combo of creative, fun and professional. I loved that her work on #SelfMade, altho a period piece, still felt lively & contemporary.
#EponineMomenceau - her work on Audiard’s #Dheepan left me speechless. I saw it only once at the Miami Intl Film Fest but still think about it constantly. How she created beauty and terror in a single scene.
Let me pause and get ready for work. Starting this thread was fun.
#LauraMerians - we met at a CXX or ICFC event. When I learned she DP’d car commercials? (If you work in film, you know how coveted that job is). That’s badass. She’s a true artist. Evidence in #BlackAsKing
#RachelMorrison - #Mudbound was reminiscent of so many films I idolized when I was young. We all love #BlackPanther. But how Rachel found texture, life, struggle, aspiration in various tones of brown? Amazing.
#MaryseAlberti - where do I begin? I saw #Poison before, maybe around the same time, I decided to be a DP. Her images are always so powerful. Striking. I could do a thread on her work. #Happiness. #VelvetGoldmine. #Creed?!!
#PollyMorgan Ridiculously innovative. Obviously. I watched #Legion and was mesmerized. Like seriously - what am I watching? A visual feast.
#LisaRinzler - on my radar since film school. I love action sequences & am encouraged to see women DPs known for that. There are many women now that do - but Lisa did #MenaceToSociety & #DeadPresidents way back. She also did #Pollack which is beautiful.
Enough for now. Let me make dinner and continue prep work for my next episode. Thankfully this is only a fraction of all the Women DPs working now. I keep meeting more. It’s very exciting. Bookmark to find most (all?) reels of Women Cinematographers. icfcfilm.com
I lived in France for year. The year before I started film school. A number of friends said I should stay in France bc they were more welcoming of Women DPs. I wonder about that often. Anyway. Speaking of French ...
#CarolineChampetier - #HolyMotors. I love love love this wacky film. It’s epic. Bizarre. Over the top visuals. Another film that’s experimental yet completely cohesive. Beautiful and bizarre.
#HeleneLouvart#NeverRarelySometimesAlways is in my top 5 of 2020. When I saw #Pina it opened up to me the artistic possibilities of 3D. It changed me. I can’t film a dance sequence (nor fight scene) without thinking of this film.
#ReedMorano - beyond accomplished as a Dir and DP. I love that she directs and DPs her own films. Loved #FrozenRiver. Had a noir feel in the middle of snow & ice.
#CrystalFournier - I’m not very familiar with her work. I remember enjoying the film #Tomboy. But we all loved the Diamonds scene in #Girlhood.
#AriWegner - I thought I was a fan, but looking over her IMDb, I realize I’ve been a big fan. #LadyMacbeth was stellar. Really enjoyed #TheKetteringIncident. But #InFabric has a special place in my heart for many reasons incl the visuals. Very sexy.
#JessicaLeeGagne - I’m not very familiar with her work but was super impressed with #EscapeAtDannemora. Same locations always felt new. Composition & lighting always tense. On edge.
#AvaBerkofsky - I’m very excited to see what they create for Josephine Decker’s next film. Of course Ava’s work for #Insecure will go down in the history books.
For those unaware : these are the 7 DPs who lensed #Insecure so far. A consistently good looking show.
#MiaCioffiHenry - We met at a Made in Her Image /Panavision panel last year. Fellow Tisch alum. I’m excited to see her #Superior that premiered at Sundance this year. Love loved her work on #RebelSeed. Showcases fashion in a very somber cinematic way
#KatelinArizmendi - great work on #Swallow and #CharmCityKings - but the Burberry spot made me so so very happy. Glorious homage to my fav musical. Full of life, energy, looks.
A part of me feels like I should tweet about every single female DP. When I have a party, I invite everyone (remember those?). But tweeting doesn’t pay my bills. 😊. One more before I go to work
#NatashaBraier I’m a HUGE Refn fan. I went to an early screening of #TheNeonDemon at BAM. As always - the excitement is off the charts when I watch a film & am impressed by the visuals and learn the DP is a woman. Anamorphic. Color. Style.

I’m starting a thread of random items that have made going back to work during Rona “easier”. I went back to work in July 2020 & have learned lots since then. Pls add anything that has helped you or cd help others.
Wearing a face mask and shield for 12 hours will leave you dehydrated. If you’re like me, you wake up the next day feeling hungover. No matter how much water you drank the day before. So every night after work, I drink a big tumbler of water w Nuum (electrolytes). Huge help
Another tip (and then let me run to work). I pride myself - used to - on my complexion. Masks, especially surgical, leave bruises around my mouth. Rose Hip Oil every night (bath in it) has reduced the bruises significantly.
