Gen X, particularly the Oregon Trail µgen, was the first generation to come of age with access to personal computers.

Exposure to this metaphor in interaction design innumerable times before getting laid -> we've internalized and identified with its utility.

Do Not Go Forward.
So, aside from the visual representation of the "Cancel" button literally BEING the name of the generation, we're a generation that has been been bred to (or driven to) adopt cynicism and an innate distrust of imposed authority.

And, until now, apathy.
You see, we're also the generation who was first raised on artificial sweeteners, milk & soda in plastic bottles - not glass, mono & diglycerides, PUFAs,

and the first generation to see an explosion in the number of children born on on the Autism spectrum.
Our generation entered adulthood as ongoing attempts to brainwash us into rejecting science, to facilitate the oil industry pulling another 30 years of record $200bn+ profits, but at the cost of a 10x domestic increase in the # of natural disasters - 2x domestic oil profits.
We've known something was wrong, was unjust, was unfair... but with monopolies on political power in the hands of the shareholders + boards of oil cartels, food manufacturers and pharma, where lip service only came with $2600, & access requiring much more
And where a president was hounded for years, and when he was finally impeached over the fallout from a blow job - the VERY SAME DAY - those responsible rewarded a pedophile responsible for the deaths of multiple victims, in the most powerful position in their party.
Yeah... think about it that way & apathy made sense.

And maybe you'll understand why so many members of this and subsequent generation found conspiracy theories sold to protect those responsible for the above, instead projecting onto the opposition, credible and/or entertaining.
And, for the most part, Generation X hasn't had a chance to lead - why would we want to be affiliated with this system, where you either surround yourself in filth, or find yourself accused of such - by well-financed PR teams (and, to some degree, hostile foreign actors).
But, let me reset.

What does it mean to cancel?
Like I said above, it's preventing something from going forward.
To cancel a person, then?

It's a democratic decision to annul or revoke someone's continued influence on society, based on bad behaviour.

And there's nothing wrong with that. Why?

There is no social contract that ANY individual has a permanent right to influence.
The public is not indebted to any individual to ensure their continued social relevance - we don't have kings or earthbound gods.

En point: for any government officials to demand we do would be a violation of our free will - as protected by the US Constitution.
Seriously. it doesn't mean we're going to strip you of anything you've earned (unless it was acquired through criminal activity).

Canceling just means that we're not that into you anymore.
So, add it all up with the fact that a generational rejection of positional authority and weaker economic status than past generations has reduced the probability that Gen Xers would desire or successfully run for elected office.
But, along with the risks, there are now more ways to use democratized communications technologies to communicate and raise funds. And that, I think, should give all us Gen Xers a reason to reflect on why we haven't participated - and how that can change.
But until then, there's just something about "cancelling" that is so inherent to the understanding of the world that anyone who grew up with a mouse in hand gets - and that's what makes US relevant, and @foxnews a sad relic of the past, where recursive authority ruled.
Sorry, dude.

We have our cancel buttons. We learned BASIC when we were 10, and we can see culture as a loop rather than an inherent trajectory...

But every loop must have a condition upon when it exits - infinite recursion without external control leads to stack overflow.
So, let's execute this shit asynchronously:

somebody.listen() {
while (somebody.is_not_a_douche == true ){
print("okay, you're cool. carry on.")
}
print("X.")
}

Got it?

(Probably not.)
For this generation, the earlier generations who shaped a generation of apathy and inaction - and those who are tools of their perpetuation, are exceeding their available resources.
The more resources you've consumed, the faster your time will come.

Especially if you've executed any illegal operations.

So, sorry @FOXnews.
This is the only kind of X you're gonna get.

Last year, someone turned the HBO series "Euphoria" on, and I was seriously disgusted within 30min by the graphic sexual interaction that was portrayed as between underage characters:

not b/c it corrupts teens, but b/c it's a thinly veiled replacement for child porn for adults.
I don't know if #BombayBegums has the same degree of fictional exploitation of underage characters as Euphoria did, but there's a reason that it's against the law for actors in porn to pretend to be under 18 -

because it normalizes the desire to rape children.
Discussion is fine. Making out? Whatever.

But if there's full frontal "child" nudity or simulated sex w/ underage characters, any other sexual content that might stimulate arousal _below_ the waist, seriously.

What I don't get about COVID & small businesses: TX commercial leases carry an explicit or implied warranty of suitability.

Why is the onus not on the landlord to make rental properties COVID-safe, or willingly waive rent until the business is able to SAFELY resume operations?
It seems that by allowing businesses to reopen at full capacity unmasked, but where it is unsafe for individual business owners to do so due to limitations of the facilities, the governor has screwed landlords by opening them up to new expenses to ensure 'suitability' -
whether remediation/ventilation upgrades and other enhancements necessary to ensure business owner/worker/public safety per both state AND OSHA guidelines (which I assume are WIP)

or face constructive eviction suits and be forced to pay the resulting damages to business owners.

I wonder how public response would have differed had it been suggested that either the original COVID19 strain, or some of the new variants actually WERE designed in a lab, and spread by hostile foreign actors.

Americans respond to an enemy they can understand.
Try as hard as you want, but most Americans won't get the 'motivations' of a positive-sense, single-stranded RNA virus.

A hostile sentient force, though - that we can understand.
Instead, we had vague allegations that it was China's fault, but were assured that there was no evidence it came from a lab or that it was intentionally released.

It usually takes 5-10 minutes or so to walk from DNC to RNC HQ. It took the pipe bomb courier about 23 min, iirc.

That doesn't match walking directly.

It precisely fits walking DNC-> Folger Park ~8pm, get bomb#2 -> RNC by 8:13.

A potential route:
It also explains why the courier walked back up the alley at 8:17 - they were headed back to their car.

What remains to be determined: what made them choose the path they took? Has anyone local mapped out if there are there surveillance cameras along the local streets?
One way to do this - at least to find cameras that have IR night vision - would be to walk the streets at night and record video on a camera without an IR cut filter (i.e. the front-facing cameras on cell phones would work) to detect point sources of IR on houses/poles/etc.

So, I wasn't going to say anything about this right now....

UNTIL I SAW THE T-SHIRTS.

FFS, how can ANYONE be reporting on this rapid tripling of the number of unaccompanied minors as anything other than an op?

They left A WEEK BEFORE THE ELECTION &
THEY HAVE BRAND NEW T-SHIRTS
There is ZERO chance that this migration began without at least a wink-wink-nudge-nudge from somebody linked to the GOP. Over the past 4 years, the 'caravans' were timed just perfectly for the 2018 and 2020 elections.

Actually...
In 2019, @priscialva noted the 'threat' of caravans had "fizzled out" - but then, of course...

The alt-right (aka today's GOP) spinning up the anti-Cuomo machine tonight kind of makes me wonder if they have some kind of agreement in place with The Firm to drown out any mentions of "Andrew" in case Meghan&Harry spilled the tea.

No tea spilled, but Uncle Andy is still🐉 😆
I'd have said he was sweating instead of dragging, but... you know.

He was in the Falklands - so he can't sweat or rape teen girls. 9_9
( & I'm not dismissing the Cuomo allegations. But "did you find me a girlfriend?" & "he touched my back and asked to kiss me" isn't like ordering someone down on their knees to keep their job, propositioning them, or directing underage girls ( or boys ) to... do anything. )
