First speaker of the day is Lauren Isaacson, Research Director at Curio Research

— Insights from Anywhere - A guide and options for doing remote research

#DR2021
Lauren is in the middle of moving house and presenting from a hotel room.

"If we're going to talk about remote, we're going to all in"

😂
Lauren's been doing remote research from her house since 2016, she's going to share with us her methods for ensuring great quality insights.
Technology Options:

There's SO many tools, there will be ones you use every day and there will be others you need but will only use every now and then.
How to assess what tools you need?
Most clients just use the default meeting platform, usually good enough but you don't have the depth of features to coax out more insights.

Subscription based Vs Project based pricing options
Purpose built interviewing platforms
Usability Testing Plaforms
Video Focus Groups
Chat/Text-based focus groups

Good when you need speed and not depth.
Online Asynchronous Focus Groups
Digital/Remote Ethnography or Digital Diary Study Tools
Eye Tracking
Facial Coding

Good for augmenting video content, can help enhance your discussions.
Dial Testing

They used to actually give people a dial in a room, now it's digital!
Augmented and Virtual Reality
Research on Mobile

It can get a bit complicated, so Lauren has 3 suggestions.
Practice makes perfect!

You're not going to be an expert when you first use these tools, get demos from the vendor, trial it on your colleagues!
Backchannel

Create a backchannel for communication that isn't visible to everyone
Lauren HIGHLY recommends getting transcripts.

Humans are more expensive
AI means you're going to need to correct a lot of mistakes
Different Analysis Methods
Try
Learn
Adjust
Repeat

You've got this!
Thanks so much Lauren!
