— The Persuasion Equation | how to effectively communicate results to people who don’t want to listen

#dr2021
Brooke's early process.

She was frustrated that putting in so much effort to get great research results but no-one cared about it
We need to be talking to people — participants and stakeholders — and talk to the data to find answers.
Stakeholders are like pokemon — you need to know why they're in the room and figure out what their motivations are.
Bring everything you know about research to your internal stakeholders.

Make time for them to be there, to see your work, to be engaged with it.

Why do they care about what you have to say?
They probably want to make a "Data Driven Decision" and it means different things to different people.

Find out what kind of decision they want to make.

Make sure you don't get "Data Derailed" (link to her article: linkedin.com/pulse/how-data…)
You need to understand

Where are they now?

Where do they need to be?

If you can get a good grasp of what someone's experiencing now, and work our specifically where they need to be.

"What data points would change a decision for you?"
"How much data could we remove?"
When presenting data you need to present:
Who
What
Where
When
Why
How
Any time data is presented this is what happens.

Kind of like hoarding data in your garage, without understanding what's actually going on.
Begin with the end in mind.

The best thing can happen after you present is someone able to present your results back to someone else.

It will make them feel like a better leader and that you understand their needs.

How do you want someone else to retell your story?
The important part of you presenting to someone is that they understand you and can say it in their own words.
Take home points need to be:

Notable
Relatable
Retainable
Brooke's Persuasion Equation
Thanks so much Brooke!!
