I am incredibly worried about BC’s spiking #COVID19 rates - and honestly confused by the mixed messaging we are getting from the BC government. It feels as though we are just watching the cases rise instead of rising to the fight. 1/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC #bced

We gave up on bending the curve, then we gave up on flattening the curve. Now we seem to be giving up as the case numbers spike. There are immediate steps this government could take to get us back on track /2 #bcpoli #COVID19

Increase testing, resume daily briefings, provide case numbers on weekends. Answer every question being asked by the press, with multiple follow ups. It doesn’t always have to be Dr Henry & Minister Dix - but have officials who can answer questions every day /3 #bcpoli #COVID19

Be transparent about exactly what types of indoor spaces transmissions are happening in, and at what rate. For a set period of time, implement targeted shutdowns. Provide funds to workers and employers to make it happen and get them through this period /4 #bcpoli #COVID19 #bced

Bring in a comprehensive mask mandate for all classrooms, expand virtual learning options, ensure distancing, and improve air circulation. Have kids eat outdoors where they are sheltered and distanced /5 #bcpoli #COVID19 #bced

Today in QP I asked about #FairyCreek. There is an injunction request by Teal Jones to remove the blockades from #FairyCreek and start roadbuilding in this valley. It sets the stage for #OldGrowth logging in the last intact old growth valley on Southern Van Island. 1/ #bcpoli

My question was directed at Premier @jjhorgan, he didn’t stand to answer - instead Minister @KatrineConroy made banal, generic statements she’s been making for weeks, and in her answer she did not refer to #FairyCreek even once. 2/ #bcpoli #OldGrowth

The #FairyCreek watershed is the very definition of an ancient, high-risk ecosystem that the #OldGrowth Strategic Review Panel recommended be protected while a strategy is developed. No valleys like it remain on Southern Vancouver Island, they've all been logged. 3/ #bcpoli

This month we celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth. But we also know that we need much more than 28 days to recognize the importance of Black people and Black communities in British Columbia’s history. This needs to be integrated into our curriculum year round. 1/ #bcpoli #bced

It is not just about acknowledging; we’ve erased history in BC. Until we stop, we will not come to terms with the amazing contributions of Black people and communities to our province. Addressing systemic racism has to be done systematically - and education is central to that. 2/

As @AdamPOlsen has pointed out we cannot address racism one silo at a time. As legislators, it’s our responsibility to proactively address #systemicracism - it is going to take looking at all our institutions, all of our systems, to address racism effectively. 3/
