The antiquities of Bhubaneswar is definitely multiphased. They exist in layers below surface what is in position now.Sari deula is just an example. Many structures also stand above other ancient edifices. Mentioned about the complex of Rameswar earlier
that it was also a single large temple complex probably of Panchayatana type with a big temple in the middle which we can't ascertain now from the existing structures. These were almost in ruined state during early part of the 19th CE, renovated by ASI later. Just identify this!
K C Panigrahi writes that the plinth of Rameswar temple itself is built of another temple stones which bears clamp marks and earliest type of chaitya arches. Its porch contains a specimen of early Ganesa and several early sculptural fragments found inside the compound.
The detached sculptures of ruined temples of Lakshmaneswara, Bharateswara & Satrughneswara were found at the neighbouring places.Even an embankment made of temple stones found in the nearest field from which several sculptural stones were shifted to State museum.
The temple of Siddheswara existing nearby Mukteswara temple also has been built on an earlier temple. This is proved by three or four courses of stone sharply distinguished from the rest by reason of different colour & fabric still exist up to a height of 2/3 feet above the plinth
Though the early sculptural portions has been chiseled off, one portion still exists which shows the existence of an earlier shrine. The traces of the early octagonal laterite compound wall of the earlier temple still exist which seems followed as model for the Mukteswar temple.
In the Yameswara temple compound underneath the debris of a laterite stone building also found the remains of an early temple. The temples of Mitreswara, Yameswara, Bharatimath & this ruined temple most probably formed another temple complex in Bhubaneswar during an early period.
Besides all these most of the Bhubaneswar temples like Lingaraja, Kapileswara and Bhaskareswara etc show presence of early temples at the respective sites. Many temples which existed on the banks of Gangua r now buried underneath the surface. The Sari temple is just one example..
The presence of two step wells inside the State Museum compound proves that it is present in the midst of an ancient fortification..Many may not believe that it was once upon the site of a fort of Chodaganga Deba.
So basically we Bhubaneswarias are residing over a treasure trove!

This 13th Century temple, famously known as Maa #Gangeswari temple situates in the Bayalish bati village of Puri district. Goddess Gangeswari is believed to be the Ishtadebi of Gangas of Odisha.. ImageImageImage
Bayalishbati(lit. 42acres) is also the village of Sibei Samantaray, the chief architect of Konarka temple. Different sources mention that during construction of Konarka groups of Masons were engaged at different places to receive the stones transported through rivers or rivulets, ImageImageImage
to chisel them into sized ones & also to carve out designs on them as per the instructions of the chief architect. Bayalish-bati was one such place where Masons camped for the said purpose. Some believe that this temple is a prototype of Konarka but a closer inspection reveals, ImageImage

Little known facts about Jagannath temple architecture, Puri.
#Thread👇
1. The first instance of repairing of temple at Puri is assigned to Jajati I of Somabamsi dynasty in around 950CE.
He repaired the existing dilapidated temple meant for Nrusimha & Bimala.
2. Both the Nrusimha & Bimala temple bear the architectural elements of Somabamsi period & also predates the main Deula.

The present main temple(deula) was constructed after 200yrs of renovation by Jajati I. i.e. during early 12th CE by Anantabarman Chodagangadeba.
3.The Jagamohana was built few years after completion of the Bimana during the same Ganga rule as evident from Bada portion of the porch which is artistically similar to the deula.
Whereas Madalapanji mentions that it was built in 16th CE by Mukunda Harichandan.

was playing with a ball on the beach, the Sun God saw him and was enamoured by her beauty. Being enamoured the Sun God offered Chandrabhaga to come with him.
Bt Chandrabhaga refused d offer,so SunGod tried to capture her forcefully.Being helpless Chandrabhaga drowned herself into d sea
