Trump’s #COVID19 Task Force coordinator Dr Birx: "There were about 100,000 deaths that came from that original surge. All of the rest of them... could have been mitigated."
100k of 500k was my benchmark too. But I didn’t work in the Trump WH, she did. 🧵
2) Study: Trump govt: “squandered both money and lives in its response to the coronavirus pandemic, and it could have avoided nearly 400,000 deaths with a more effective health strategy”
BREAKING—The giant ship blocking the Suez Canal has been freed by salvage crews. Yet unclear how soon the Suez Canal will be open for traffic. #EVERGIVEN
2) “Salvage teams freed the Ever Given in the Suez Canal, according to maritime services provider Inchcape, almost a week after the giant vessel ran aground in one of the world’s most important trade paths.”
3) “While the ship is floating again, it wasn’t immediately clear how soon the waterway would be open to traffic, or how long it will take to clear the logjam of more than 450 ships stuck, waiting and en route to the Suez that have identified it as their next destination.
💡ANTIBODIES FOR NEWBORNS—Pfizer & Moderna #COVID19 vaccines are effective in pregnant and lactating women, who can pass protective antibodies to newborns.
Huge—The antibody levels were "strikingly higher" than from natural infection during pregnancy.🧵 amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/03/25…
2) Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard looked at 131 women who received either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Among the participants, 84 were pregnant, 31 were lactating & 16 were not pregnant
3) The vaccine-induced antibody levels were equivalent in pregnant and lactating women, compared to non-pregnant women. The antibody levels were "strikingly higher" than those resulting from coronavirus infection during pregnancy, the team noted.
BREAKING—Mexico's 🇲🇽 government is acknowledging in a quietly released report that the country's true death toll from the coronavirus pandemic now stands above 321,000. That is almost 60% more than Mexico’s official test-confirmed number #COVID19 cases.🧵
2) Mexico does little testing, and because hospitals were overwhelmed, many Mexicans died at home without getting a test. The only way to get a clear picture is to review “excess deaths” and review death certificates.
3) “The higher toll would rival that of Brazil, which currently has the world’s second-highest number of deaths after the United States. But Mexico’s population of 126 million is far smaller than either of those countries.”
2) And of course I got the “do you know Kung fu” question. The even more ignorant ones asked “karate”. It’s harmless at first, but it gets tricky once older because then some playground bully then wants to play tough guy and fight you for sport.
3) I ignored most of it, but it also hurt that we were poor, and they teased me about my awkward clothes that we bought from Goodwill and Salvation Army thrift stores.
2) “In the state’s capital, more and more people between 20 and 54 are getting infected, the city’s health secretary, Edson Aparecido, told GloboNews TV on Friday. Younger patients wait longer to seek health care and are sicker when they arrive”.
3) “Before, the risk factor to dying from Covid-19 was being older, having some co-morbidity,” said Domingos Alves, a professor of medicine who’s part of the national monitoring group. “Now, the risk is being Brazilian.”
