Before making assumptions on someone based off their degree, perhaps consider the individual's life and socioeconomic circumstances that led them to learning a new skill/career/trade later in life.
Take for example, me: my mom died when I was 15 and in high school. Thinking about my career wasn't something on my mind- I was trying to get through each week. My grades suffered, and (obviously) no top schools were interested in me. I didn't even hear about CS until I was 25.
Check your privilege when judging folks who attended bootcamps/are self taught/etc. Everyone's story is different, and everyone has a unique perspective to contribute to tech. ESPECIALLY if you come from a non-traditional path ❤️
Another great example is my friend and mentee @LaRenaiocco. It's been Incredible to see her journey over the last year(!!) ❤️🥲 We'll be chatting about it today on @LearnTV today on #HelloWorldLive 📺 at 10:30am PST 🤡🎪
Also, consider hiring my pal @MetzinAround- a high school teacher who learned to code during the global Panera.

If PJ hadn't learned to code, we wouldn't have @bot_shania @MechanicalCarey or @BotianaGrande. I don't want to even imagine a world without them. I'm very impressed.

🤨 @fast recently pulled an offer from my friend. Personally, I'm not a fan.
Like, offer signed- 2 weeks notice at previous job given. I'd love an explanation, cuz I'm pissed.
This would have been their first job in tech (from a non-tech background). Imagine getting offered a life changing amount of money in an offer, giving your 2 weeks on a Friday, and waking up on email with a revoked offer on Monday.

This ain't it, @fast. Do better.

International Women's Day is coming up. In lieu of tagging 20+ women in a long Twitter thread, plz consider donating/investing/volunteering with an organization like @TechtonicaOrg @BlackGirlsCode or @blockpartyapp_ ♀️💸👩‍💻🚺🤸‍♀️💘 it makes a huge difference.

Also, consider becoming a mentor at @Hackbright! 👩🏿‍💻👩🏻‍💻👩🏽‍💻👩‍💻👩🏾‍💻

I wouldn't be where I am today without @pslawless as mine ❤️ And it's been such a pleasure to mentor @LeahYuk + @beccaroro and see them grow into 2 of the most talented engineers I know!! 💪🖱️💾 hackbrightacademy.com/mentor-at-hack…

When you're in a meeting and some dude restates what you said earlier to take credit for your idea:
When a male ally in the meeting notices this, and calls out that it was, in fact, originally your proposed idea:
When male allies support women to make sure they are heard, not spoken over, paid equally, and treated with respect in the workplace:

We need to standardize "table flip" as a reaction on all video conferencing platforms. Sometimes a wave/heart/thumbs up just won't do.

So, does next Monday at 6am work for everyone?

5 years ago I was performing on this stage as a crayon in "The Day the Crayons Quit", and pounding redbull to get my energy high enough to perform 2 morning shows a day for kids 🎭🖍️😴

If you think it's too late to learn to code/make a career switch, I promise you it's not. 👩‍💻💙 Image
Not everyone has the luxury of being exposed to computer science at an early age. There's no shame in learning later in life- we all start somewhere.

If you feel like you don't belong in tech, I assure you, there's space for you (and we need you). 💙❤️
