Friends,
... want to know why the rates of domestic violence have not reduced in Australia in over a decade??

....THIS example - could not make it clearer.

....check this out 👇🏼 (thread)
Late Thursday night, @abcnews posted this news story + interview on its YouTube page ...
“A Parliamentary inquiry has found rates of domestic violence have not reduced over the past decade, despite governments spending of over $3 billion ....
“The report from the House of Representatives Committee on social policy & legal affairs, has concluded that DV rates have not been reduced in 10 years.
The committee now wants the reports 88 recommendations to be the basis of Fed Gov next national decade DV strategy.....”👇🏼
Watch the @abcnews interview with- Chair of the Federal Government Social Policy and Legal Affairs Committee (National Party Member for Fisher Qld) but please pause at 3:17 min mark .....

....and continue to read on👇🏼)
In interview, @AndrewWallaceMP states there are 5 core elements that need to be achieved to stop DV.... .
1) A national uniform definition of DV and FV .....

—> because nothing says “stop killing women” more than defining things in procedures....
2) Holding Government to account

—> because holding someone else accountable for an individual’s actions is an effective deterrent - not
3) Public awareness and education.

—> there has been no public education campaign to stop people robbing banks, stealing cars, committing fraud etc
—> Under the law there is no defence for committing a crime for not knowing it was illegal
—> Ppl know it’s wrong already
Reading the inquiries findings, it doesn’t take long to see something missing ..
‘Key response areas to family and domestic violence:
1) primary prevention
2) early intervention
3) support for victims’

...what about
• holding the perpetrators accountable
• stopping abuse
What message does it send people about how serious the Gov is about stopping DV when there is more of a penalty for catching a fish that is too small then there is for actually committing DV?

—> The message, they don’t, and until the specific act of DV is a crime - we aren’t
This inquiry was asked to look at the findings of other recent and current inquiries undertaken by gov. ..

Looking at the following list, how effective are government inquiries into reducing rates of DV do you think?
At this point of the interview - presenter interrupts @AndrewWallaceMP & asks him following question

(You might want to sit down for this......)
“......... Mr Wallace, do you think it’s appropriate that Andrew Lamming is part of the Social Policy & Legal Review Committee, and that he has had the ability to influence and input into a gov report on domestic violence?”
Yep. ...... Andrew Lanming ......
...... Andrew Lamming has been one of the ppl in charge of Fed Gov inquiry into DV........

The same man accused of a targeted campaign of harassment with online bullying of women, taking photos of women while hiding in a park, fat shaming women on social media.....
....... Andrew Lamming
...... and the DV and family court inquiry before this, Pauline Hanson was made the co-chair of......
A woman who thinks women lie in family court about abuse, a man accused of abusing women, & chair of inquiry who spent majority of career as carpenter in region of Aust famous for growing pineapples....

...That’s who gov has left in charge of reviewing & advising DV policy ...
... the same DV that is having a catastrophic impact on Australian lives ..

• On average, 1 woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner.

1 in 3 Aus women (30.5%) has experienced physical violence since the age of 15
1 in 4 Australian women (23.0%) has experienced emotional abuse by a current or former partner.

Almost 10 women a day are hospitalised for assault injuries perpetrated by a spouse or domestic partner.
Intimate partner violence is the third greatest health risk factor for women aged 25-44, with the first being childhood abuse and neglect.

In 2014–15, Aboriginal women were 32 times as likely to be hospitalised due to family violence assaults as non-Indigenous women
Based on 2015 analysis, violence against women in Australia is costing Australia $21.7 billion each year.

.... yet despite these horrific statistics ....
..& achieving nothing - the most important things Gov has come up with to stop DV are..

...making sure they know what definition of DV is

make people aware of something they’re already aware of &

holding gov accountable (How exactly? He didn’t say)
....Why haven’t rates of Domestic Violence in Australia reduced in over a decade??

Because Gov doesn’t give a damn.
The above are examples of total and utter incompetence & indifference to gendered violence against women - & it’s costing ppl their lives

Dear @MarkMcGowanMP ,
Youve done a great job protecting West Australian lives during pandemic, however there is an epidermic thats killing more ppl than a virus & we need your help....

Sir, why is the specific act of domestic violence not a crime in WA?
(Thread)
Physical abuse is a crime yes however non physical abuse is not ie:Financial, social, systems, emotional, legal abuse, gaslighting & coercive control.
There is more of a penalty for catching a fish that is too small - than there is destroying the life of another... why?
Your own government is telling the public face types of abuse are wrong and to speak out if they are victims. - but who exactly are victims supposed to speak out to @MarkMcGowanMP? Because without a law criminalising these things @WA_Police can’t do anything...

1895 – 28/3/1965

A Walpiri-Anmatyerre man of the NT - how did Tjungurrayi be come so famous?

(Thread)
Tjungurrayi was born in the Tanami Desert in the NT, 200 km Nw of Alice Springs, in the region surrounding Coniston Station around 1895. His first name Gwoja means water. His last name reflects his skin name.
2/9
As pastoralism expanded in the region early 1900s, further into Tjungurrayi's ancestral country, tensions intensified during drought of 1920s, with increasing competition over water & food.
He survived the Coniston Massacre in the then Territory of Central Australia in 1928

Thread: Wholeheartedly agree @vanOnselenP
But we don’t need a royal commission, we all know what went wrong, we watched it unfold. Everyone l was telling gov this was wrong & hurting ppl, they failed to act.
It was arrogance, incompetence, over reliance of bureaucrats..
1/7
& a deep prejudice held against welfare recipients, with assumption ppl without money are below them; assuming ppl would rort system, assuming gov could bully ppl & no one would fight back - it’s EXACT same behaviour & cash grab by @ato_gov_au that @Richard_D_Boyle exposed 2/7
@Richard_D_Boyle & @4corners disclosure, stopped @ato_gov_au & saved lives + prevented suicides - but Richard now faces 162 yrs jail for doing so

@JaneCaro & @vanOnselenP are right, but how could ppl hold gov to account & prevented deaths without risking same as Richard? 3/7

4) Remembering Twiggy was banned by ASIC from being CEO for misleading the sharemarket in regards to value of contract with Chinese steelmills.
5) Influencing gov policy over cashless welfare card with charity work with Aboriginal communities
