❝If the 🇷🇺 army units gathering close to 🇺🇦 are deployed, it would mark an entirely new stage in the conflict that would have grave implications for international security.❞

@ACEurasia's @Biz_Ukraine_Mag gathered a range of expert views on what's next in Ukraine.
❝It's time for Washington to provide additional leadership by announcing conditional sanctions that would be levied on Russia if it escalates in Ukraine. The sanctions could be placed on a major bank, but certainly on Nord Stream 2.❞

🗣| @JohnEdHerbst atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainea…
❝Russia’s current threatening moves against Ukraine serve to remind the rest of the world of Russian malign actions and intent.❞

🗣| @USIP's Amb. William B. Taylor atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainea…
President Biden ❝must now send a clear message to Putin, telling him to stop his aggression against Ukraine.❞

🗣| @anders_aslund atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainea…
❝Washington needs to tell Moscow that if it doesn’t leave the Donbas in six months, the United States will levy more sanctions and begin visa bans on top Russian officials. All options should be on the table…❞

🗣| @melindaharing atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainea…
❝While it is impossible to predict the likelihood of a full-scale invasion, Ukraine must militarily prepare for such an eventuality. It is also crucial to coordinate a united response to Russian threats from Ukraine, the US, and Europe.❞

🗣| @getmalyona atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainea…
❝The US and NATO allies need to look at the build-up near the Ukrainian border in the broader context of Russia’s expanded military capacity and activity and take steps to assure the security of the alliance and its partners.❞

🗣| @PowerVertical atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainea…
❝The current military build-up close to the Ukrainian border should remind everyone of two unhappy realities, seven years after Russia first launched its war against Ukraine.❞

🗣| @BSBonner atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainea…
❝🇷🇺 is unlikely to launch a full-scale invasion of 🇺🇦 as this would lead to a long war & the complete breakdown of Russia’s relations with the West. Putin is more likely to aim for a repeat of the trap he laid for 🇬🇪President in 2008.❞

Launching his #NATO2030 reflection on strengthening the Alliance in an increasingly competitive world, @JenStoltenberg says "COVID-19 has changed our lives in ways we could barely imagine… and magnified existing trends"—from Russia & ISIL to disinformation & the rise of China.
"The rise of China is… shifting the global balance of power," says @JensStoltenberg—"heating up the race for economic & technological supremacy; multiplying threats to open societies & individual freedoms & increasing competition over our values & our way of life." #NATO2030
"#NATO2030 is about how we adapt to this new normal," says @JensStoltenberg.The Alliance, he says, must:

1. Stay strong militarily.
2. Be more united politically.

Iran has built a prolific and effective digital influence apparatus. How does the Iranian government use it? What does it intend? See new report by @etbrooking & @KianpourWorld. atlanticcouncil.org/in-depth-resea…
As of this month, Facebook had identified roughly 2,200 Iranian assets affecting 6 million users. Twitter had identified 8,000 accounts responsible for 8.5 million messages. The scale of these attributions is second only to Russia.
This apparatus targets regions across the world: in North America, certainly, but also in North and West Africa, in Southeast Asia, in Europe, and most notably in Latin America and the Middle East.

Introducing Olivia Seltzer (@thecramm), @RNicholasBurns remembers Sept 11, 2001 as then-US ambassador to NATO. "It was an emotional day, because Americans are not accustomed to being on the defensive… All of our NATO allies stood up that day and they supported us. #NATOEngages
"And that's why I support @NATO," says @RNicholasBurns, "because Americans shouldn't want to live alone in the world." #NATOEngages
"We're powerful," says @RNicholasBurns of the United States, "but we can't defeat climate change on our own… we can't arrest war on our own. We can't get much of anything done without Britain, without France, without Germany, without Greece… I'm grateful to @NATO." #NATOEngages
