10 myths of early retirement that need to die.

++ THREAD ++
My wife and I retired early at 33 and 35, respectively. We're happier and healthier than we've ever been.

The top 10 B.S. myths I've heard about early retirement over the years.

👇
1: You will be so bored.

Only boring people are bored.

Find a damn hobby, then do it. Do it well.

Hobbies keep us busy, productive, and feeling useful.

Try it.
2: You'll never be able to work again.

Untrue.

I turn down more job opportunities than I did when I worked full-time, and it's not even close.

People will marketable skills will always be in demand.
3: It's impossible to build wealth working a 9 to 5 job.

Bullshit.

4: Everything will be better after I retire.

Truth: Early retirement isn't some magic pill. It won't make everything better.

If you're an unhappy person working full-time, you'll be an unhappy person after you quit.

ER doesn't change the type of person you are.
5: I would rather be productive than retire early.

Early retirees are unproductive? A giant lie.

If your job is the only thing in your life that makes you feel productive, I feel very, very sorry for you.
6: Early retirement isn't possible with kids.

This is factually incorrect. I know MANY early retirees with kids.

For instance, @RouteToRetire and @RootofGoodBlog immediately come to mind, but there are so many others.

Don't use your kids as an excuse. It's pathetic.
7: Retiring early requires extreme frugality.

▫ a home gym
▫ MacBook Pro
▫ top-shelf liquor
▫ prime-cut steak
▫ weekly restaurants
▫ big computer monitors

If this is "extreme frugality", I'm not sure I want to know your definition of "excess".
8: It's selfish.

Choosing to nix your commute, sitting in pointless meetings, and listening to bosses drone on about mission statements isn't my definition of selfish.

Early retirees have more time to give back, get involved, and volunteer.

Opposite of selfish.
9: Early retirement is only available for the "privileged".

Those who deny the power of personal responsibility are full of shit.

Yes, it's easier for some. That's always been the case.

But, "privilege" is a cop-out that's keeping people from pursuing their dreams.
10. You're not retired if you're earning money.

If a 70-year-old grandpa makes a little cash on the side by selling his woodworking, nobody accuses gramps of not being retired.

Earning money doesn't define retirement.

11 lessons you learn after hitting a 7-figure net worth.

// THREAD //
1. Money doesn't solve problems.

A 7-figure net worth doesn't magically fix everything.

▫ Your relationship
▫ Your anxiety
▫ Your loneliness
▫ Your self-worth

Like a hammer, money is a tool.
Tools don't magically build homes.
2. A million isn’t “nothing”.

Money Twitter tries to convince you that a million is nothing these days.

Secret: None of these people are anywhere near a 7-figure net worth.

So many people struggle to put food on the table.

A million can be EVERYTHING.

11 things your millionaire neighbor isn’t telling you.

++ THREAD ++
1. He's never told you that he's a millionaire.

Your neighbor doesn't announce his wealth because your neighbor is not a loser.

He believes in stealth wealth, and that's why he's rich.
2. He doesn't earn 7-figures.

Your neighbor is a millionaire because they saved a million over the years rather than earning a 7-figure salary.

If they earned 7-figures, they probably wouldn't be your neighbor.

12 Things My Wife And I Did To Retire in our 30s

++ THREAD ++
1: We ignored the hate.

Funny how people dish hate when you're living a purposeful life.

You're not drowning in debt, buying a boat, going on pricey vacations.

You're living your life. Building wealth.

Those hateful people are still working today.
2: Tracked cash flow.

We knew where every dollar was going.

Using spreadsheets, we had complete visibility over everything, and it made saving money uber simple.

Track your spending.

++ THREAD ++
What is Money Twitter?

It's a segment of Twitter that talks about:

- crypto is king
- fuck your 9 to 5
- online businesses
- 24/7 hustling lifestyles
- "Real wealth begins at 8 figures"

It's 90% bullshit.

Here's what you need to know. 👇
First, most on Money Twitter are good people.

They are trying their best to better their lives. Improve their situation.

I respect the hell out of that.

Rich vs. Poor: 15 things you can do that will MAKE YOU RICH.

// THREAD //
1: Believe you can.

Your mindset will *LITERALLY* make or break your ability to build wealth.

Whether you believe you can or you can't, you're right.

Don't proceed further unless you believe you have the power to get rich.
2: Show up every damn day.

Rich people don't just phone it in. That's what poor people do.

To get rich:

- be present at work, mentally and physically
- be the person everyone can rely on
- do your job the best you can

This is not hard.

Your 9-5 job can make you more money than you can imagine.

Here is how I boosted my salary by almost 250% in 12 years.

//Thread//
☑ I was the first one in the office, every day
☑ I rarely took sick days or vacations
☑ I made myself uber valuable

Showing up is half the battle.

Warning: This can turn into a BAD thing if you *never* take time off.

Moderation is key, but THIS WORKS.
☑ I switched companies five times in 14 years
☑ Each move boosted my salary at least 15%

Nothing murders wealth like a dead-end job.

Don't be afraid to change jobs to get more money or a better position.
