"I would say the black zone is near collapse....They talk about boiling the frog in the water, it just doesn't jump out. Well, maybe we're the frog. We have an acute care system, it's a bathtub. The drain is only so big. The water only goes down so much.

The tap is the Covid patients. We're in the tub, but we can't turn off the tap. Someone needs to turn off the tap.
Our Regina leaders are severely strained and burdened. ...What their staff and our leaders are reporting it seems like a disaster zone.

It's controlled chaos but it really feels like a disaster zone. The stories that they are telling are heartbreaking. Patient and family suffering. Struck me today that one of the themes is we're seeing orphans from Covid. I think that is really horrible.

The other thing that we are hearing is this is damaging to healthcare workers. It's life-altering, it's career altering, and we're going to have a lot of work to do afterwards to help our people.
5/n
I worry that people look at what we can do and confuse it for what we should be doing. I think it's more of what we have to do. We can create capacity but we're doing it at the expense of quality of care. We're doing it at the expense of safety.
6/n
Let's be frank about it. We're doing it at the cost of outcomes. We're doing it at the cost of our staff. This is a grinder and we're grinding up our staff."
