On Apr 26, 2021, I sent letter - w/some notable signatories - to Public Interest Declassification Board (#PIDB) to ensure compliance w/laws surrounding release of #Kennedy assassination docs.

2/Congress created #PIDB as advisory committee with official mandate of promoting fullest possible public access to thorough, accurate, and reliable documentary record of significant U.S. national security decisions and activities.

3/In a prior Twitter thread I outlined important legal deadlines that exist w/r/t release of additional #JFKAssassination records under President John F. Kennedy Records Collection Act of 1992.

4/In response to my letter, #PIDB calls on @USNatArchives to exercise its authority & challenge all requests that do not strictly meet Congress’ intent to release as much info as possible & only postpone the most sensitive records that meet standards in SEC 5(g)(2) of the Act.

5/Importantly, #PIDB "will continue pressing for maximum transparency. In the coming months leading up to the September 26 deadline and the President’s October 26 certification deadline, the PIDB will remain engaged and advocate for the public release of these records."

6/Those who signed letter rep different views of Nov 22, 1963, but all concur that fullest possible disclosure of documentary record is long overdue. Terms “conspiracy” & “theory” have no place here. The focus is on declassification, transparency and compliance with the law.

7/Signatories include notable lawyers, #JFKassassination scholars/authors, transparency activists (including actor @AlecBaldwln____) & significantly former govt officials who officially investigated assassination for Congress in 1970s & led Review Board in 1990s.

END/We applaud #PIDB's response & look forward to working cooperatively towards greatest possible transparency abt one of the most significant events in US history.
