Premier Kenney imposed #COVID19AB restrictions without any exit criteria.

4.4m Albertans aren't going to do this again without a clear "Are we there yet?"

Let's meet or beat last summer:
• We did it before
• We have vaccines to help us now
• Summer-Summer comparison is fair
I propose this clear, balanced scorecard.
• Mix of leading & lagging indicators.
• Existing, official data sources.
• Measures of success or trouble we already know
• Simple to update or replicate

#LastSummer #BalancedScorecard #COVID19AB
I propose targets from 1 July 2020 (Canada Day).
• We were out of lockdown
• We thought we had #COVID19 under control then
• Symbolic date for all 🇨🇦 (like 4th of July 🇺🇸)
• Achievable again, especially with vaccines

Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, Timed
#SMART
Where is "Are we there yet?" for Alberta's current restrictions?

What truly would be:
• "One last time"
• using the help from vaccinations
• low risk of 4th Wave or Miserable Plateau
• near the end of the tunnel
• and back to life more like normal?

Need help from @GosiaGasperoPhD or @imgrund for an R(t) for 1 July 2020.

For current R(t), I will use alberta.ca/covid-19-alber…

Premier Kenney has already given a target R value of 0.8 before lifting restrictions, endorsed by our CMOH. So I'll go with that.

Are we there yet? Meet Summer 2020 to lift #COVID19AB restrictions.

We did it before - despite all our anti-mask, personal irresponsibility, same MLAs - without vaccines.

Premier Kenney's habit of "benchmarking" to the worst (Ontario hospitals, Peru lockdowns) made us worst. Balanced scorecard of leading & lagging indicators comparingBenchmarking to the worst made us worst in Canada or US, mor
I know #ZeroCOVID is THE solution to #COVID19. New evidence proves that every day:
• Deaths
• Economic Recovery, and
• Civil Liberties.

I'm trying to establish the process of benchmarking AB to AB with a balanced scorecard, independent of FINAL goal.

Because #COVIDisAirborne + Canada's worst-governed provinces are now in a massive 3rd wave, I decided to upgrade from mask to N95-style respirator.

Just in time, @cbcmarketplace lab-tested 14 available respirators. 7 passed. I found 3 in Calgary stores.

cbc.ca/news/canada/ma…
I am sharing my buying experience, including links and prices, to help others. H/T @RajBhardwajMD for the Marketplace story.

The new Variants of Concern are much more transmissible (stickier) than the coronavirus we encountered last spring. We need better than the usual masks.
Demand >> supply for true N95 respirators for healthcare workers exposed to infected people, so @cbcmarketplace looked at respirators meeting Chinese KN95 & Korean KF94.

These are now available because #ZeroCOVID countries no longer need as many.

Thread: Doubts & Questions about Preparedness of @AHS_media to safely distribute COVID-19 vaccinations.

An open letter to Deputy Minister Paul Wynnyk

@RachelNotley @Dave_Khan
My doubts began right away, when I saw pallets stacked on their sides inside the walk-in freezer.

But my concerns are not just limited to violations of Alberta's Occupational Health & Safety Code, meant to protect workers, and the risk of damaging vials.

For another example, why is this Ultracold Freezer so warm that the Manager, Immunization Business, a Registered Nurse, is able to touch it with her bare hand?

It is not below -70ºC as required for the Pfizer vaccine. How can DM Wynnyk claim Alberta is prepared without this? ImageImage

Thread.

Last week I decided to dig into the life-threatening Precondition & Excuses from Alberta Health to resist enabling the National COVID-19 Exposure Notification App.

@Dave_Khan @DShepYEG @shandro @jkenney @RachelNotley ImageImage
The Precondition and Excuses became clear enough last week to analyze and examine critically against the facts.

Frustrated with the lack of answers, or evasive answers from provincial elected officials, municipal officials and provincial media have been asking @CMOH_Alberta.

Thread: Alberta Health's procedural masks.

@AHS_media: "These masks are all safe, certified and meet ATSM Level 1 filtration requirements."

Longtime supplier PRI•MED follows ASTM F2100-11 (2011).

New supplier Vanch follows YY/T 0969-2013.

@Arfarfarf8 @mchatenay @Dave_Khan
There are key differences between the North American and Chinese standards.

ASTM Level 1 requires both Bacterial (3.0 µm) & Particle (0.1 µm) Filtering Efficiency ≥ 95%.

YY/T is silent on anything smaller than 3.0 µm.

Coronavirus average 0.125 µm.

smartairfilters.com/en/blog/compar…
Depending on the English translation, YY/T 0969-2013 requires the nose piece to be "pliable" or "plastic".

Unfortunately, Vanch took that to mean a non-pliable plastic strip in some batches, and a thin twist tie in others.

@gccarra @DaleCalkins @maxfawcett @DruhFarrell Here's 1 of my questions. The proposal pretends there is a 50/50 split of the capital requirements, but only includes $2m of flood mitigation in the $550m. It is as if the building will be floating in mid-air without regard to land value or location costs. @fieldofschemes
@gccarra @DaleCalkins @maxfawcett @DruhFarrell @fieldofschemes But proposed location sits in provincially-regulated flood zone, with 72-93% chance of flooding at least once in next 25 yrs, which means higher flood mitigation costs & insurance costs. City received estimates for these. Why were they not disclosed? What are they? @trevortombe
@gccarra @DaleCalkins @maxfawcett @DruhFarrell @fieldofschemes @trevortombe From my reading, the Land Use Bylaw does not allow for a basement or below-ground bowl for proposed arena. The first floor must be min 0.3m above street, no electrical or mech equipment below, +sewer backup protection. No way this will cost $2m. Where will money come from?
