Divided Republicans reunite to mount defense of filibuster theguardian.com/us-news/2021/m… While Democrats have struggled to unite members of their Senate caucus, especially their centrist holdouts, to get rid of the #filibuster, Republicans have been lockstep in opposing changes (1/5)
Conservative outside groups have been organizing overtly and covertly to counter Democratic pressure to gut the #filibuster. Heritage Action is targeting “constituencies of Democratic senators in which we have a very large footprint– Arizona, Georgia, West Virginia” (2/5)
Americans for Prosperity, another outside group, funded by Charles #Koch, has launched a six-figure ad campaign focused on Manchin and Sinema (3/5)
Suzanne Clark, the president and CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce tweeted the group’s statement, THANKING Joe Manchin for protecting the #filibuster (4/5)
Whether the #filibuster will be dramatically altered depends 💯 on Democrats. NO Republican senator has expressed support for it – and at this point, there are not enough Democratic votes to change it‼️ (5/5)
Ted Cruz just sent a very important message to Joe Manchin washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/… Sen. Angus King referred to the proposed Republican amendments to S1 and asked Cruz a pointed question: “If this amendment and others that you suggest are accepted, would you vote for the bill?”-->
->Cruz replied: “To be candid, it is difficult to imagine a set of amendments being adopted that would cause me to vote for this bill, it would have to be a fundamentally different bill”

Cruz HAS made this as clear as anyone could possibly ask for. WILL MANCHIN GET THE MESSAGE⁉️

1) Paul Weyrich: The Man Who Framed the Republican Party web.archive.org/web/2006101303… After Goldwater's defeat, Weyrich and his colleagues didn't waste any time. They formed the New Right and began the long, steady march to expand the base of their party
2) Weyrich focused on members of evangelical churches: a large, mostly apolitical constituency. Obviously, the New Right wasn't going to win over all evangelicals. Some were downright liberal. The New Right targeted members of fundamentalist, Pentecostal and charismatic churches
3) Goldwater lamented "the religious extremists whose interpretation is narrow, and who want to destroy everybody who doesn't agree with them. (They are) betrayers of the fundamental principles of conservatism. A lot of so-called conservatives today don't know what the word means

How the CNP, a Republican Powerhouse, Helped Spawn Trumpism, Disrupted the Transfer of Power, and Stoked the Assault on the Capitol washingtonspectator.org/nelson-cnp/ One major player in the events leading up to the assault on the Capitol was the Council for National Policy #CNP
The #CNP adopted a three-pronged approach to enhancing Trump’s chances in November.

The first involved expanding their use of data to juice Republican votes and suppress Democratic turnout.
The second was to mobilize supporters in swing states to ignite Tea Party–like protests against the virus-related public safety lockdowns.
