Reporter warns far-right Republicans may be close to achieving a 'radical rewrite' of the Constitution rawstory.com/reporter-warns… Since 2014 the Convention of States Project and other groups including #ALEC have helped lawmakers in 15 states call for a new constitutional convention
The Convention of States Project is led by a prominent right-wing activist ― former Tea Party Patriots founder Mark Meckler, who is also the current acting CEO of Parler, and a member of the #CNP Council of National Policy's Gold Circle #ShadowNetwork
According to The Center for Media and Democracy, lawmakers proposed 42 Convention of States resolutions in at least 24 new states this year. Article V of the US Constitution states that a constitutional convention could be convened if 2/3 of the states - 34 states call for it.
The convention could lead to the demolition of everything from the social safety net and environmental protections to civil rights laws. The 1st, 14th and 15th Amendments - any Constitutional protections could be up for grabs in a new constitutional convention❗️
If you still read the newsaper, you likely saw this on the op-ed page the past few days from nationally syndicated conservative columnist Cal Thomas:
Biden, Dems keep growing government and its power over us – a CONVENTION OF STATES could fix it foxnews.com/opinion/biden-… (1/3)
Too many people believe that government is their primary source for all things. Government promises increasing "entitlement" benefits, which addicts growing numbers of people to Washington. They, in turn, mostly vote for the politicians (i.e. Democrats) who give them stuff. (2/3)
As well as Cal Thomas, conservative commentator Mark Levin is egging them on, telling them that "Our republic and liberty are at stake, threatened by a mob, political demagogues, and a corrupt media. In the end, (a ConCon) is the only tool that can save our constitution." (3/3)
For those of you who don't read the newspaper, by reporting on people and places you know, it's credibility is the best way to fight fake news. An objective press is one of the pillars of our democracy.
Push for Convention of States Splits Kansas Conservatives usnews.com/news/best-stat… the Kansas Constitution requires the approval of 2/3 of each chamber of its Legislature, but the Senate President said he would declare the measure passed with a simple majority
Mark Meckler, president of Convention of States Action, said approving the resolution by a simple majority and helping to get the legal question answered would counter people who “cower in fear while the country crumbles around them.”

Divided Republicans reunite to mount defense of filibuster theguardian.com/us-news/2021/m… While Democrats have struggled to unite members of their Senate caucus, especially their centrist holdouts, to get rid of the #filibuster, Republicans have been lockstep in opposing changes (1/5)
Conservative outside groups have been organizing overtly and covertly to counter Democratic pressure to gut the #filibuster. Heritage Action is targeting “constituencies of Democratic senators in which we have a very large footprint– Arizona, Georgia, West Virginia” (2/5)

1) Paul Weyrich: The Man Who Framed the Republican Party web.archive.org/web/2006101303… After Goldwater's defeat, Weyrich and his colleagues didn't waste any time. They formed the New Right and began the long, steady march to expand the base of their party
2) Weyrich focused on members of evangelical churches: a large, mostly apolitical constituency. Obviously, the New Right wasn't going to win over all evangelicals. Some were downright liberal. The New Right targeted members of fundamentalist, Pentecostal and charismatic churches
3) Goldwater lamented "the religious extremists whose interpretation is narrow, and who want to destroy everybody who doesn't agree with them. (They are) betrayers of the fundamental principles of conservatism. A lot of so-called conservatives today don't know what the word means
How the CNP, a Republican Powerhouse, Helped Spawn Trumpism, Disrupted the Transfer of Power, and Stoked the Assault on the Capitol washingtonspectator.org/nelson-cnp/ One major player in the events leading up to the assault on the Capitol was the Council for National Policy #CNP
The #CNP adopted a three-pronged approach to enhancing Trump’s chances in November.
The first involved expanding their use of data to juice Republican votes and suppress Democratic turnout.
The second was to mobilize supporters in swing states to ignite Tea Party–like protests against the virus-related public safety lockdowns.
