Behind the dark-money web that put Barrett (and Kavanaugh and Gorsuch) on the Supreme Court salon.com/2021/03/30/beh… In 2008 Ann and Neil Corkery established the Wellspring Committee w/ help from the Kochs and raised its seedling $10 million from attendees at a #Koch donor seminar
In 1990, the Corkerys gave an interview to the South Florida Sun Sentinel describing themselves as members of Opus Dei, who "vehemently oppose legislation that allows divorce or civil marriages, as well as homosexuality and contraception."
Wellspring has donated to People for United Privacy, the Catholic Association Foundation, a nonprofit that promotes Catholic causes; and the Federalist Society, run by Leonard Leo who reportedly belongs to the Knights of Malta
in every year since Wellspring's inception, it has given millions of dollars to the Judicial Crisis Network. JCN, which has in the past been interchangeably overseen by Ann and Neil Corkery, gets over 90% of it's funding from Wellspring. The JCN is now run by Carrie Severino
#CNP Board of Governors member Carrie Severino, who once served as a law clerk for Justice Clarence Thomas.
She is another blight on Harvard Law School
In 2016, Media Matters found that JCN consisted of just two employees, despite the enormous amounts of money that flow through the organization on a regular basis. The nonprofit's website suggests Carrie Severino is now the sole employee.
A Tangled Web Of Dark Money And Familial Ties A Media Matters investigation reveals a familial web of self-dealing between the JCN, it's major dark money funder-the Wellspring Committee, and a third nonprofit that also receives funding from Wellspring
In 2016, JCN launched a smear campaign against Merrick Garland.
JCN went to bat for Brett Kavanaugh in a big way after his 2018 nomination.
Barrett's nomination was bankrolled by the Corkerys as well.
@SenWhitehouse: The Supreme Court has become just another arm of the GOP washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-s… One unnamed donor gave $17M to the Judicial Crisis Network to block Merrick Garland's nomination and support Gorsuch; then perhaps the same one gave another $17M to prop up Kavanaugh

1) Paul Weyrich: The Man Who Framed the Republican Party web.archive.org/web/2006101303… After Goldwater's defeat, Weyrich and his colleagues didn't waste any time. They formed the New Right and began the long, steady march to expand the base of their party
2) Weyrich focused on members of evangelical churches: a large, mostly apolitical constituency. Obviously, the New Right wasn't going to win over all evangelicals. Some were downright liberal. The New Right targeted members of fundamentalist, Pentecostal and charismatic churches
3) Goldwater lamented "the religious extremists whose interpretation is narrow, and who want to destroy everybody who doesn't agree with them. (They are) betrayers of the fundamental principles of conservatism. A lot of so-called conservatives today don't know what the word means
