Today, May 15th, marks the anniversary of the Nakba, when Zionist militias ethnically cleansed 750,000 Palestinians from their homes in 1948 in order to create Israel. #Nakba73
But the Nakba did not stop in 1948. In 1967, thousands more Palestinians were forcibly displaced by Israel, considered “absentee” and dispossessed. And so the number of Palestinians ethnically cleansed by Israel grew.
As a result of Israel’s ethnic cleansing, there are over 7 million Palestinians refugees (the expelled & their descendants) worldwide. Though they have the internationally-recognized right of return, Israel refuses to allow them to return home.
Since the Nakba, Israel has slowly and painfully suffocated Palestinians, through the occupation of the Palestinian territories, including the blockade on Gaza, through home demolitions & illegal settlements, through more forced displacement.
Now, 73 years on, it is obvious the Nakba never ended. Israel’s current violent dispossession of Palestinians, its attempts to silence and distort the news on the ground, and its destruction of Palestinians life and livelihood all starkly parallel the pain and loss of 1948.
The scenes on the ground now—Israeli lynch mobs roaming the streets; Israel bombing Palestinian homes, killing dozens of Palestinian children, attempting to forcibly replace Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah w/ Israeli settlers—are evidence of ethnic cleansing—of a continued Nakba.

3) All Israeli settlements, built on stolen Palestinian land, are illegal under international law.

Sheikh Jarrah has long been coveted by Israeli settlers. In 2009, settlers evicted three families from their homes in the neighborhood.
