My ttakeaways from @DavidGHFrost engagement with HoC committee today. 1. #HMG has discovered the Good Friday Agreement. Mentioned more often today than by the Leave campaign or his political master @BorisJohnson during ref. @BrigidLaffan
2. Frost says that U.K. 100% behind GFA. Anything that undermines it a problem for London. Impact of Protocol more unsettling & stronger than ‘we thought’ would happen. Wow when the dogs in the street knew the potential damage of Brexit for island of Ireland.@BrigidLaffan
3. When asked if temporary SPS alignment would be considered which really would make a difference-@DavidGHFrost says no. Why because of the search for trade agreements-U.K. must be in control. @BrigidLaffan
4. Only 1 conclusion to draw. This London Gov will continue to privilege GB Brexit over the most vulnerable part of U.K.-anyone who thinks a Johnson Gov cares about Northern Ireland is experiencing Une grande illusion. @BrigidLaffan
5. On the wider EU-U.K. relationship, the desire for bilateralismi evident in many of the questions-EU treaties not the foundation of co-operation but a strait-jacket. Also Brexit was described as ‘extracting ourselves from the institutions’ by Frost-myopic. @BrigidLaffan
6. Far too much talk about need for the EU to display pragmatism, common sense & so on. One question brought a smile ‘have they realised we are gone’. Yes U.K’s neighbours do realise you are gone, respect your right to be gone but spare us the blame game-tiresome. @BrigidLaffan
Finally @DavidGHFrost in a revealing answer spoke of UK on outside & trying to influence EU so Brussels will continue to be one of the biggest UK missions. ‘We need to influence our biggest neighbour’-arguments must be persuasive & win win according to Frost-stop dumping on EU
