(1) Thread. Here is the official statement from HRH The Duke of Cambridge.

As always, he is pitch perfect. In this thread I will point out a few #facts from the entire saga that began in 1980 when his parents became engaged.
(2) Diana, not Charles, was the first party in their marriage to have extramarital affairs.

Diana chose to lie about this, and fueled the false claim that Charles had destroyed the marriage by being with Camilla.

William knows and accepts the truth.
(3) Harry's claim that the media killed his mother is false.

Diana chose to dismiss her British Police security team, largely BECAUSE Bashir and the BBC had provoked paranoia about them.

This meant she was unprotected in August 1997.
(4) Diana had no need to travel from the Ritz Hotel to Dodi's apartment that night. Here are all the ways her death could have been prevented:

>She could have worn a seatbelt. The one passenger who did, survived.
(5) >There are credible claims that far from trying to evade the press, Diana had actually told one or more of them when and where she would be in the car. It is well known that she manipulated the press to her own advantage for many years. Similar to what Harry now does.
(6) Diana's driver was a hotel manager employed by Dodi's father. He was not qualified to drive the specialized make of Mercedes car the family used for VIP travel. After his death, it was shown that alcohol and the antidepressant Prozac were in his blood.

He chose to speed.
(7) I assume the reason Diana did not wear a seatbelt, even once the speed increased, was her trust in his driving ability, and the safety features of the Mercedes.

As I alluded to earlier, a British Police officer would have paid proper attention to all aspects of safety.
(8) Because of her traumatic childhood, Diana was predisposed to mental illness, including depression, anxiety, paranoia, and the eating disorder bulimia.

Bulimia developed within months of the marriage. Charles & the family ensured she could access the best professional help.
(9) When the royal family need medical care they can always get the best, and it is always kept private. Diana accepted the professional help and attended appointments. It is clear though, that she had not been willing to make the changes in her life that the therapy suggested.
(10) This is common among people with a range of mental health conditions like eating disorders, substance abuse, and mood disorders. At the very time when Diana might have finally decided to work on her issues, she was approached by the BBC's Martin Bashir for an interview.
(11) It is not Diana's fault she had mental health issues. There was a genetic predisposition in her family (her uncle died by suicide in 1984.) As I think we all know, both nature AND nurture play a part in this.

Charles did everything he could to help her. He did love her.
(12) Charles and the Queen have never been in a position where they can push back against the lies of the media and the supporters of Diana's false claims about them.

Prince William's statement today is very interesting.
(13) William doesn't hold back as he criticizes Bashir and every person at the BBC who aided and abetted these crimes and unethical behavior.

I find his statement more credible and honest than his brother's, who still believes the media alone caused Diana's death.
(14) I believe little of what Harry says these days. He has made unconscionable false claims about the actions of William, Catherine, Charles, the Queen, and the late Duke. Yes, the Duke, who has only been dead for a matter of weeks.

I think Harry was gaslit like Diana was.
(15) There were many things I admired about Diana, and about Harry. But I can't condone the ways they attacked family members in public, knowing those people can't exactly fight back.

Like his mother, Harry was at risk of developing mental health issues...
(16) I think William, and Charles, have always tried to protect Harry from harm. Up until 2016 Harry seemed to be making progress, and was maturing into the kind of high functioning public servant William is.

If Harry had chosen a dignified exit I could have respected that.
(17) People born into the royal family of course can choose to leave and lead a more "normal" life. I can give you many detailed examples of those who did this. Even William could choose it; which makes Harry a liar for claiming he is "trapped" in his role.
(18) By 2016, it was known among royal watchers (including me) that Harry had considered leaving, and one day might do so. He could have lived in South Africa, where his longtime g/f Chelsy Davy had lived while studying law.

He would have retained his popularity if he had.
(19) I've learned from 5 decades of life that it doesn't pay to dwell on the "what ifs."

But the BBC Martin Bashir scandal is a matter of public interest, of historic importance.

The most culpable are the execs who ignored his crimes & to this day have tried to cover them up.
(20) Prince William's statement endorses a free press and "public service broadcasting." Unfortunately, the presence of the latter is no guarantee of better performance than what the Dyson Report has shown.

A truly free market increases the odds of accurate & ethical reporting.
(21) The BBC has been unethical and wasteful of public finds since it began in 1922. Of course, much of their work has been ethical and a force for good. It's the false news that lets the side down.

When broadcasting technology was new, public service broadcasting made sense.
(22) In the current environment, using taxpayer funds for broadcasting companies no longer makes sense.

I don't think it will be possible for the UK to move away from this model. But the Bashir scandal will hopefully wake up more of the public to see the issues clearly.
(23) The British monarchy is, arguably, the most popular it's ever been in modern history. Interestingly, the recent attacks from one of it's wealthiest beneficiaries have strengthened this public support.

I take great pleasure in that.
(24) I've criticized several of the royals at various times in my life, but I now have the utmost respect for William, Catherine, Charles, and Camilla. They have quietly and doggedly earned the trust and confidence of the majority of the public in the UK and the 15 other Realms.
(25) My respect for the Queen and the late Duke never wavered. It took time for the #facts about the Waleses to percolate out. So many lies were spread, many of them originating with Diana and her supporters.

Unscrupulous people like Bashir exploited her vulnerability.
(25) In the same way, unscrupulous people have exploited the vulnerability of Diana's second son.

He has allowed himself to become isolated from his family and even from the close friends he had since childhood.

It's a pattern many of us have seen in our own families.
(26) I'll wrap up this thread here, but I might add links to some of my earlier tweets and threads about the British royals, including the 2019 one where I predicted Harry & his wife would resign from their roles:

(27) Some other threads about this, from January 2020:

Yes, I was a Trump supporter at the time. I'm not now, because of 1/6, mostly.

I prefer to leave all my old tweets up & to discuss rather than shrink from them.

(1) Thread: Benghazi v 1/6

Firstly, I am proudly #ExMAGA. Let's get that out of the way for anyone who hasn't read my tweets since December 2020.

Secondly, in 2016 before I became a MAGA supporter, Benghazi was a topic I studied in depth from all angles. ..
(2) I wanted to know why Democrats criticized Congressional Republicans for the way they went about investigating Benghazi.

We have now come full circle, with Republicans criticizing anyone who attempts to investigate their own Benghazi, AKA the planned & enabled attack on 1/6.
(3) There is a group of 17 Congressional Republicans who stood up to Trump earlier this year, by voting in the House or the Senate to impeach or convict him for his extensive, clear role in encouraging, enabling & condoning the violence of 1/6.

The 17: accountability.gop/courage/

(1) Short thread: The Dunedin, NZ, supermarket mass murder attempt case from May 10, 2021.

The 42yo man charged with 4 counts of attempted murder is set to appear in court today.

Currently it APPEARS to be a "random attack." I will provide updates in this thread.
(2) Local time is 1pm, so the first court appearance is not far away.

I want people to know that criminal case reporting in NZ is very different from that in the USA.

Temporary name suppression is usually ordered, and respected by professional media. IMO, it's a good thing.
(3) Since the pandemic began, supermarket workers around NZ have borne the brunt of real physical violence & all manner of psychological violence.

In this case, a worker was stabbed, another came to help, got stabbed, then two bystanders did the same.

Such great COURAGE.

(1) I used to admire Mitch McConnell for his experience and ability but now he says dumb things like "one hundred percent" of his focus is on "stopping this new administration." Dude could have stopped them getting into office by:
(2) By actually standing up to Trump when it mattered, eg during 2020 when Trump was on a political suicide mission by:

>downplaying the pandemic regularly
>enabling, encouraging, and condoning sedition ahead of 1/6.
(3) Trump's biggest blunder in office (and the competition was tough) was not taking the pandemic seriously enough from the start.

For example if #Qdroxychloroquine was so great, why isn't the government of India handing it out to their people?

(1) Jimmy Kimmel spent 18 mins last night with Mike Lindell on his show. I recommend watching it.

It provides an insight into how things got to the point of thousands storming the Capitol & why Trumpers still say it wasn't them & it wasn't that bad.

(2) True, there are some laughs to be had, & kudos to Kimmel for deftly enticing him to reveal things he shouldn't reveal. Comedy is more effective than rage.

Trump's inner circle includes anyone he thinks might be useful in some way. Then he ditches them. The list is long.
(3) Lindell is dumb as a rock. He's being sued for making claims like he made even in this interview. That's gotta lead to consequences in the proceedings.

Giuliani was just raided. Sidney Powell admitted she lied. Lin Wood's day is coming. They're all up to their necks in it.

(1) Here's something American liberals & moderate conservatives can do to help rebuild after the damage Trump did and is still doing, along with his allies and supporters.

Y'all need better #whistleblowerprotection, & you CAN create it without waiting years for law reform.
(2) This will be damn hard to achieve, I know. But I invite you to think about all those working in the public & private (eg media) sectors who can't report what they have seen, without leaving their family destitute during a pandemic that is still an existential threat to many.
(3) Most whistleblowers don't have the substantial personal resources that will get them through until they can one day make money again. Seditionists and other leaders of domestic terrorist networks know this. It's a key reason they get away with their crimes.

The main question about Victor Hill right now is why did it take so long for this to become public?

People around him had to have known. The USA needs much better whistleblower protection laws at the state & federal level.

THIS is how you really start to #DrainTheSwamp.
And for the inevitable GENIUSES who will question why the use of a "restraint chair" inside a prison cell is wrong. There are several reasons but one of them is that the inmate can be injured or even killed this way, depending on his or her individual risk factors.
Ongoing physical mechanical restraint inside institutions like prisons and so-called "hospitals" can be very dangerous, which is why it is decreasingly used, in civilized places.

BRIEF restraint for immediate risk reduction is justified, but that is not what's alleged here.
