Of course, what this means is that India still matters internationally. If it didn't internationally read print magazines would not waste column inches on #India's pandemic.

Questions:
Will the Govt set up 1. A research team to urgently draw up a research protocol to study the causes/risk factors for #Mucormycosis? 2. A committee of national and international experts to draw up evidence-based clinical guidelines?
3. An expert group of statisticians and epidemiologists to estimate and report on the true number of cases of #COVID19 and #Covid#deaths?
Thread. #WhatsApp myths about #India's slow sputtering #Covid#Vaccination program. Let's bust them one by one. 1. Vaxx shortages are because of our ambitious aim to make it available to the 18-44 age group as well (Phase3)
A. Hang on. why then are the total No. of doses falling
2. It's all those bloody lefty anti-Modi intellectuals who criticised Covaxin and generated all those negative vibrations. That led to #VaxxHesitancy.
A. Well firstly, Covaxin was approved on Jan 3 w/o a shred of data on efficacy. science.thewire.in/health/dcgi-cd…
Secondly, similar widespread criticism of AZ trials did not affect Britain's rollout of the vaccine, did it. The difference was Britain had a truly independent regulator.
When I click the link in this tweet by India's Minisiter of State for Finance and Corporate affairs (pic 1) I get a 504 error (pic 2)
Clearly the Govt of India has created a whole fake newspaper website called The DailyGuardian.com to mirror Britain's @guardian
I do not see how this can be correct. bear with me and follow my logic. If the GST on vaccine is reduced to Zero% then the Vaxx manufacturer can reclaim ALL of the Input GST that he paid to his suppliers. Let me give an example of how GST works.
Assume GST is 10%. VAXX Manufacturer (VM) buys in 50 worth of supplies (tax = 5) so he pays his supplier 55 gross.
he makes and sells vaccine for 100 (GST = 10) so gross price charged to end-user is 110.
No he pays to Tax Collector: Output GST of 10 offset by Input GST of 5 = 5
Now if GST on Vaxx is reduced to 0 then:
his input GST stays the same = 55 but the price he charges for his vaccine is now 100 +0 = 100. so his output GST is NIL. So he pays to tax collector zero offset by input GST of 5 = -5. i.e. he claims a refund of 5.
Imagine India was not a democracy. There was an Emperor in New Delhi who addressed his people once a month, strutted around the world before Covid, gave pep-talk littered with religious references at times of crisis, parleyed with kings and other world leaders; Imagine further..
That the Emperor appointed a Council of Ministers to implement his ideas and that the deal was that they credited him, the Emperor with successes, and took the blame for failures. Imagine also that the Emperor had hired an army of courtiers whose job it was to sing his praises
Imagine that these courtiers did not have to attend the durbar but instead would sit in airconditioned studios from where their Songs of Praise would be carried into peoples' homes. Imagine also that there as a peoples assembly at which the Emperor deigned periodically to attend
The daily new cases count is still above 4 lakhs, at 401,343 yesterday 7 May.
Meanwhile, the vaccination drive sputters on fitfully. It seems to bear an inverse relationship to the spread of the virus.
The Ministry of Health, @MoHFW, seems more concerned with defending the Govt agaibnst criticism. Every day it boasts about how many doses of vaccine it has given to the states "free of cost" See this from today's Press Release.
