#Thread on domestically made weaponry in #Gaza strip.
1) "Al-Banna" Anti-Armor Rocket launcher, developed in 2002 under the direction of Adnan Al-Ghoul & Mohamed Al-Deif.
An extensive amount of it was made & supplied to Al-Qassam's operatives & others factions' operatives.
2) "Al-Battar" Anti-Armor unguided Missile Launcher, a simple but relatively affective launcher that consists of a 1m launch tube supported by a tripod with a missile that carries 4kg of high explosive materials produced by Al-Qassam Brigades and introduced in 2003.
"Al-Battar" launcher would be installed in a certain direction while the rear of the missile would be connected to a wire so it can be launched from distance.
3) "Al-Yassin" launcher, a Rocket-propelled grenade launcher named after Ahmed Yassin.
Introduced in August 30, 2004 "Al-Yassin" launcher was a copy of the RPG-2 with some updates inspired by the RPG-7.
With a firing range of 200+m and the ability to penetrate through 16+cm of steel plates (from 150m) hundreds of "Al-Yassin" launchers were produced by Al-Qassam Brigades and supplied to it's operatives in addition to other factions' operatives.
The launcher was replaced in around 2010 mainly with RPG-7s & RPG-29s, while it's warheads were turned into IEDs.
Video from 2005 showing the manufacturing and testing processes for "Al-Yassin" launchers.
4) "Tandem 85", the successor of "Al-Yassin" warhead is an improvised tandem-charge warhead produced by Al-Qassam Brigades to serve as a RPG-7 round.
There are 2 generations of it. (1st generation on the left & the 2nd generation is on the right / pic 2 via @CalibreObscura)
"Tandem 85" was used for the 1st time in 2014 war where it was claimed that it managed to neutralized 5 Israeli tanks.
- Pictures below of other improvised RPG rounds under testing process (apparently they didn't enter service)
5) 61mm, 81mm, and 120mm mortars plus their shells manufactured by Al-Qassam Brigades, first mortar was introduced in 2000.
6) IEDs produced by Al-Qassam Brigades.
- Picture below for the early versions made during the 2nd Intifada, 1st version had 40kg of high explosive materials while the 8th version "Showaz" has 20kg of high explosives & the ability to penetrate through 40cm of steel plate.
Video from 2005 showing the testing process of the 8th version "Showaz" ("شواظ" in Arabic) :
Three variants were made from the 8th version "Showaz" or Showaz-1 anti-armor IED :
Showaz-2 which has 12kg of high explosives & can penetrate through 48cm of steel plate + Showaz-3 which can penetrate through 70cm of steel plate + Showaz-4.
- Barrel Charge or Barrel IED, introduced in 2014 war as it was used to target 8 Israeli tanks & APCs according to Al-Qassam Brigades.
It can carry around 50kg of high explosive materials
- Anti-Personnel T.V. shaped IEDs, there are 3 versions:
a] T.V. shaped-1, effective range of 60m.
b] T.V. shaped-2, effective range of 70m.
c] T.V. shaped-3, effective range of 100m.
- Worth mentioning that a T.V. shaped-2/3 IED was seen during an infiltration conducted by a group of Al-Qassam's Nukhba unit in 2014 war.
- Anti- personnel "Thunder" Charge, effective range of 120m.
- Small piercing Charge, total weight of 32kg and can penetrate through 120cm of steel plate.
- Large piercing Charge, total weight of 52kg and a larger penetration ability than the previous one.
- Anti-personnel [Claymore] mines, seen in 2006 near a tunnel entrance. (pic 2)
- Naval mines (pics 1+2)
- Door breaching charge (pic 3)
- Bouncing mine. (pic 3)
- A Copy of the "Bangalore torpedo", used in clearing obstacles like barbed wire (pic 4)
- A Breaching charge, plastic tube in which high explosives are placed in it, used to breach walls (pic 4)
- Pictures of other various IEDs used by the "balloon units" (including former Al-Yassin warheadrs / pic 1)
7) Explosive vest, used in suicide attacks. (first one was made back in 1993)
8) Hand Grenades made by Al-Qassam Brigades, which went through multiple of long development stages.
**Note** : I'm gonna refer to them as Al-Qassam's grenades to avoid any confusion as some generally call them "Rumanat Hamas" while others call them "Malz Bombs".
- First stage was from late 1994 to April 1995, it resulted in the manufacturing of the first *primitive* grenade made by Hamas, which had a fuze ignited by a match.
(the whole stage was under the direction of Yahya Ayyash, Adnan Al-Ghoul & Muhammed Al-Deif.)
- Second stage was during mid to late 1995, resulted in a hand grenade covered from outside with aluminum and lead fragments.
- Third stage, A plastic grenade made in 1996 under the supervision of Adnan Al-Ghoul & Muhammed Al-Deif.
- Fourth stage, A smooth body design grenade made in around 2000 under the supervision of Yahya Sinwar, Zahir and Yassin Nassar.
- Fifth stage (in the early 2000s), manufacturing the latest version of the hand grenade which is a copy of M26 grenade with a Fuze externally similar to M204A2.
It comes in 2 variants : defensive and offensive.
In addition a less-lethal grenade (Stun grenade ?) was made.
Worth mentioning that in 2014 Hamas announced that they had around 250k hand grenade (most were made in Gaza)
Video from 2005 showing the manufacturing and testing processes for Al-Qassam's grenades :
9) Rifle-launched grenade made by Al-Qassam Brigades.
A copy of the ENERGA anti-tank rifle grenade produced in late 90s under the supervision of Adnan Al-Ghoul.
10) 9mm "Goldstar" pistol developed in 1992 by a team of Hamas' specialists led by Mohsen Shehadeh and under the supervision of Muhammad Al-Deif.
Only 30 pistols were manufactured in which around half of them were functional.
11) "Hamas Uzi" SMG, production began in 1993 under the direction of Mohsen Shehadeh.
With a higher success rate than their pistols, about 250-350 "Hamas Uzi" were made before the project was halted due to security issues.
12) Carlo SMG, a copy of the Swedish Carl Gustaf m/45 SMG produced by Palestinian militants mainly during the 1990s, though some illegal workshops still manufacture it tell this day.
13) "Ghoul" 14.5mm Anti-materiel rifle (named after Adnan al-Ghoul) which is a copy of the
Iranian AM-50 rechambered to 14.5×114mm using a modified KPV barrel.
Introduced during 2014 war by Al-Qassam Brigades.
14) Ababeel-1 (A1) drones, first functional UAVs introduced during the 2014 war.
In 2016 Al-Qassam revealed the name of it's main developer Mohammed Al-Zouari who was assassinated on December 15, 2016.
There are 3 version : A1A, A1B and A1C.
15) Makeshift drone seen on December 29, 2020 during a JOR drill in Gaza.
16) Shehab suicidal drone, inspired by the one-tailed version of the Iranian Ababil-2 kamikaze UAV.
Was used for the first time on March 12, 2021 when Al-Qassam announced the targeting of an Israeli gas platform offshore.
17) "Al-Zouari" drone, named after Mohammed Al-Zouari it is latest reconnaissance UAV produced by Al-Qassam Brigades.
(footage below for one of it's reconnaissance missions)
18) Unmanned submarine, a GPS-guided submarine that can carry 30-50 kg of explosive materials according to reports.
(possible picture for a prototype)
As usual in order to make this thread, I mainly used Palestinian sources (most of the info were obtained from Al-Qassam website) in addition to the famous AJ Documentary filmed in 2005
I focused on Hamas as there is a few improvised weaponry manufactured by other factions.
**Thread Update** :
19) New variant for the 1st generation of "Tandem 85", this one is based on PG-7VM not the usual PG-7V.
Introduced around 2014 (pic 1)
20) More Rifle Grenades manufactured between late 1990s and early 2000s by Al-Qassam Brigades (pics 2-4)
- Unknown flash-bang used during one of Al-Nukhba operatives' training, note that a couple of years ago Al-Qassam unveiled that they have started producing flash-bangs however it's hard to tell the origins of this one, will leave it for future reference.
21) Saeer Rocket launcher produced by Al-Mujahdeen Brigades since 2014, designed for their S-5K rockets.(pics 1-3)
22) Unknown Anti-Armor Rocket launcher, although I believe it was domestically manufactured I still cant be certain, will also leave this one for future reference.
- Some more unknown rocket launchers, not much details were found on them. (pics 1+2)
**Note** : regarding the 2nd generation of "Tandem 85", apparently Al-Qassam stared suppling the warheads to other factions as one was seen in the hands of a S.Q.'s operative. (pic 3)
23) Will include the ATGM simulator here as it was developed locally according to Al-Qassam.
The simulation system enable the operatives to train on 4 different ATGMs (Konkurs, Fagot, Kornet & Bulsae-2)
- Picture (1), the 81mm mortar shells produced by Al-Qassam Brigades in early 2000s.
