Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update: Thank you to everyone who made safe choices & followed the rules over the long weekend, incl the 16K+ ppl who were tested & the 86K+ ppl who were vaccinated. (1/7)
AHS reported a 4% no-show rate over the last 3 days. This is not resulting in wastage but takes an appt from someone who wants it & slows down our ability to vaccinate ABs as quickly as possible. If you make an appt, please keep it or cancel it. It helps everyone out. (2/7)
Over the last 24hrs, we ID’d 387 new cases & completed about 4K tests. Our + rate is 9.9%. There are 565 ppl in hospital, incl 158 in ICU. Sadly, 9 new deaths in ppl aged 42 to 84 were reported in the last 24hrs. My sympathies go to their families, friends & communities. (3/7)
We have admin 2.55M+ doses of vaccine w/remarkable uptake across AB. Let’s keep this momentum going. Based on supply, we are looking at ways to reach groups who may be having trouble accessing vaccine & when we can shorten window for 2nd doses. I hope to update you soon. (4/7)
Health measures were announced 3 wks ago & our collective efforts are making a difference. AB’s R values was 0.67 last week incl 0.62 in #YYC Zone & 0.71 in #YEG Zone. Active cases have declined 52% from their peak earlier this month & hosp #s & + rate are also declining. (5/7)
We are approaching a point when we can safely begin to ease measures, but, there are still 12K+ active cases. The more we can reduce transmission, the more effective vaccines will be in protecting our communities when we start to ease things up in the very near future. (6/7)
We need to continue protecting each other by minimizing close contacts for a short while longer. Our recent #s show the rules are working. That progress & the increasing % of ABs stepping up to get vaccinated, will allow us to start safely getting back to normal soon. (7/7)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update:
Over the last 24hrs, we ID’d 812 new cases & completed about 9K tests. There are 665 people in hosp, incl 177 in ICU. 4 deaths were reported. My sympathies go to anyone experiencing loss. Our + rate is 9.3%. (1/8)
We have administered 2.3M+ doses of COVID-19 vaccine, which is amazing. With more than 51% of ABs ages 12+ now protected by at least 1 dose, we are making real progress. Thank you to all Albertans. (2/8)
Vaccines save lives, significantly reduce the likelihood of infection & offer strong protection even in those who have received just 1 dose. Recognizing the growing portion of immunized ABs, we are changing quarantine period requirements, effective today. (3/8)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update: We have seen a sharp decline in school-aged cases in recent weeks from about 60 new cases/day/100K children on May 2 to about 34 today. Our data shows cases rise & fall in children/youth in line with community transmission. (1/9)
When in-person learning resumed in Jan, there were 2K+ active cases in ABs 5-19, 6 weeks later, about 700. Active cases were falling across our communities as well. Schools depend upon the choices we all make incl getting vaccinated & following public health orders. (2/9)
As a part of continuing to reduce spread, extra-curricular sports, recreational and performance activities for children and youth will remain closed in high-transmission areas of the province for the next several weeks. (3/9)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update: Over the last 24hrs, we ID’d 877 new cases & completed nearly 8.1K tests. Our positivity rate is 11.4%. Case numbers are declining, this suggests public health measures are having an impact. But we still have more to do. (1/7)
Hospitalizations remain high at 691 incl 187 in ICU. Sadly, 4 deaths were reported in the last 24hrs. These ppl were loved & will be sorely missed by their family, friends & communities. My sympathies go out to anyone who has lost someone they care about to any cause. (2/7)
We have admin 2.2M+ doses of vaccine & more than 1/2 of ABs 12+ have had at least 1 dose. This is a significant feat & something we should all be proud of. We are getting closer to the end. We need to keep pushing vaccination rates to control spread & safely ease the rules. (3/7)

I would like to update you on the change to focus AstraZeneca on second doses. We have now administered 255K+ first doses in Alberta. However, based on global supply challenges, we do not know when we will get additional supply. (1/6)
That’s why we are making the prudent move – saving the remaining 8,000 doses for those who have a contraindication to an mRNA vaccine, or for second doses. (2/6)
We are now receiving more than 236,000 doses of Pfizer and Moderna a week. It makes sense to focus our new bookings on vaccines that are arriving in large numbers. (3/6)
