In the congressional record as a witness today for a hearing on building trust in Covid-19 vaccines, Nick Offerman aka Ron Swanson, has himself titled as such: "Actor and woodworker"
Besides Offerman, today's witnesses include Saad Omer, dir. @ the Yale Institute for Global Health; J. Nadine Gracia, EVP for Trust for America's Health, Amy Pisani, exec dir for Vaccinate Your Family & Karen Shelton, dir of the Mount Rogers Health District, Va. Dept of Health
If you want to watch today's congressional hearing on building trust in the Covid-19 vaccine, you can catch a stream here:
.@Nick_Offerman: "As an actor & woodworker, I will not be offering medical advice..I will leave that to the scientists & medical experts on the panel aka the smart people. Instead, I would like to represent the rest of the citizens who are not epidemiologists, aka "the
ignorant”
Nick Offerman giving credit in his testimony to the "scientists, thinkers and activists" who helped get the Covid-19 vaccine up and rolling:
"The very expedience with which the vaccine arrived has also been a source of confusion, causing people to fear that it was rushed. Well, damn right they were rushed folks, it's a pandemic." - @Nick_Offerman
Offerman: "But you can rest assured the hustle wasn't applied to the safety of the product. The science didn't arrive overnight, it was based on 40 yrs of work. The hustle was just applied to getting that science to you & me, bypassing the usual bureaucratic hurdles: the red tape
Having Offerman testify before Congress on building trust in vaccines is arguably a pretty clever PR move. He's got mass political appeal, his tongue in check style makes a decent conduit to take pressure off people who are apprehensive about the vax and he's Rugged American™️
"If you want a vaccine, there's one waiting for you now." @FrankPallone
Actor, author, woodworker, small business owner, "proud mid Westerner" Nick Offerman is here to tell Americans that have not been fully vaccinated - get on that.
I'll have the story for you on today's hearing about boosting confidence in the Covid-19 vaccine later for @CourthouseNews
What to do w/lawmakers who won't get vax?
Offerman: With the info we have, the decent thing to do is to pitch in for the common good regardless of misinfo...I'll take you down the street for a glass of single malt if that’s what it’ll take. I’ll be happy to pick up that bar tab
On “Parks and Recreation,” Offerman’s former role as Ron — a gruff but gooey-centered government employee resistant to all authority except for the makers of Lagavulin whisky — made the real-life Midwesterner a good conduit to amp vaccine appeal:

murphy.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/…
Sponsored by Sens. Chris Murphy & Patty Murray & Reps Don Beyer, Bobby Scott & Donald McEachin, Beyer notes: “The practice of subjecting students to abusive discipline techniques happens far too often, and disproportionately affects Black children and students with disabilities."
"Many states have previously recognized the harm of seclusion & inappropriate restraint in the classroom & banned these practices. This is a nat'l civil rights issue that needs a federal solution," @RepDonBeyer said.

At today's White House press briefing @PressSec Psaki on the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act: "It is exactly the right forum to help rebuild trust in communities."
The White House feels lawmakers are "making progress" on the bill.
Qualified immunity is the wedge issue.
But in back to the reality of gridlock in Washington.
Psaki then acknowledges it is "unlikely" lawmakers will pass something before the anniversary of George Floyd's death. However, there will be a ceremony at the White House next week marking the anniversary.

BREAKING: An attempt initiated by Republicans to send the $1.9B Capitol security emergency spending bill back to committee has failed, 209-208 after an hour long procedural vote. Now, lawmakers begin voting on final passage of the bill.
@CourthouseNews
There was also hesitancy today to pass the final bill by progressive members in the House who questioned whether certain officers might have been complicit in 1/6 attack. It now looks, however, that the bill will pass after some negotiating. More soon.
Reps Jamal Bowman and Rashida Tlaib voted present for today's vote approving $1.9B in Capitol Security funding. Ilhan Omar voting no.
