"The victory, which secures Islamist control over Tripoli, was a culmination of weeks of fighting triggered by elections in July, lost by Islamist parties. Rather than accept the elections result Islamist leaders in #Libya accused the new parliament.." theguardian.com/world/2014/aug…
#Libya Contexts:"Misrata is the stronghold of Islamist militias. Their support has come mainly from the two strongest blocs in the GNC: the Muslim Brotherhood and the so-called Loyalty to Martyrs. These two blocs used threats and outright force to pass..." huffpost.com/entry/libya-th…
"The militias refused to integrate themselves into Libyan military, police+intelligence forces..Their numbers swelled, from 20,000..to over 300,000 now. The strongest militias that received the most government financial support belong to the Islamist camp, centered in Misrata.."
1. Of course, the other soft coup was the so-called "GNA" Rather than support the democratically elected parliament of #Libya and its vested right to form a gov representative of Libyans, the Islamists chose once again the UN as a backdoor to circumvent democracy and sovereignty.
2. UNSMIL produced a gov for Libyans and packed it with losers of the elections. The GNA was never ratified by the parliament per the LPA for a variety of reasons and yet it was recognized and superimposed on Libyans. GNA soon proved to be a full fledged proxy of Qatar+Turkey.
In the meantime, the Islamist warlords from Misrata tyrannized the Libyan capital and captured its institutions. By capturing the capital, they held the entire country hostage and turned its banks into its personal slush fund for racketeering and weapons. theguardian.com/world/2018/dec…

Tip: When the word "warlord" is used to smear a government official appointed to his post by the only internationally recognized, democratically elected parliament of #Libya, it's a pretty good sign that the rest of the article will also contain other Islamist propaganda and lies
1/2) Patient X of Libya related fake news: Both terrorist orgs such as Al-Qaeda+Qatari-funded outlets first used the term "warlord," "Kafir,"+"Zionist" (classic) to smear Haftar, appointed by the parliament to combat #Libya's terrorist and militia problem and restore sovereignty.
2/2) Fake news first planted in Qatari funded outlets, including AJ, are then picked up by "copy+paste" Western press, think tank, institutions funded by Qatar and disseminated by powerful agencies such as Mercury, also funded by #Qatar. [cont]
"Chanting in unison, protesters called for a strong army and police to end militia rule. As nerves lay bare, divisive political slogans and insults drew the ire of gunmen, who dispersed the crowd with gunshots." middleeasteye.net/news/how-armed…
#Libya's Capital Under GNA, '20: "Instead of reining in abusive, unaccountable militias+armed groups, the GNA has been relying on them for security, law enforcement and fighting its rivals...impunity only perpetuate the suffering of civilians in #Libya" amnesty.org/en/latest/news…
#Libya Dec '18, 3 months before the army's offensive to free the capital of #Turkey-#Qatar's local militias who staged a violent coup against the elected parliament in 2014 and were later co-opted by the GNA so that they may plunder the banks together: theguardian.com/world/2018/dec…
"For centuries, local kings held a monopoly on the plant, which made the city of Cyrene, at modern Shahhat, #Libya, the richest in Africa. Before they gave it away to the Romans, the Greek inhabitants even put it on their money..." bbc.com/future/article…
"Julius Caesar went so far as to store a cache (1,500lbs or 680kg) in the official treasury.
But today, silphium has vanished – possibly just from the region, possibly from our planet altogether."
"Legend has it that silphium was first discovered after a “black” rain swept across the east coast of #Libya over two and a half millennia ago. From then onwards, the herb spread its broad roots ever further, growing luxuriantly on lush hillsides and forest meadows."
📽️⚡️Clip #6 from my interview with @alsyaaq: How can America help #Libya?
1. Dismantle the militia cartel in the capital. Read more about them here: swp-berlin.org/en/publication… 2. Enforce oversight on CBL 3. Remove all foreign mercenaries 4. Ensure free and fair elections in Dec.
The following is an excellent thread giving but a snapshot of what I like to call the "crime-terror-government nexus" in #Libya and how public funds were used to finance terrorist organizations that terrorized Libyans and the American missions too.
Speaking of #Libya's frozen funds, meet Imaad Zuberi. Only one among many vultures: "What follows is the swampy tale of a man who thought he knew how Washington really worked — and how his dream of becoming a D.C. insider turned into a legal" nightmare." politico.com/news/2021/02/1…
I expect @Reuters to update and correct their article accordingly. Perhaps next time, they can also engage in the old school tradition of fact-checking before serving as an amplifier for the delusions of a corrupt politician who has a record of lies as long as his convoy. #Libya
While this latest proliferation of fake news is a damning testimony on how GNA figures have long and comfortably relied on outlets and hacks to regurgitate their lies, I can't help but find this particular piece of theatre to be absolutely comic:
2) 2015: "Publicly, western powers..support the..UN-mediated talks..between the democratically elected government now based in Tubruq+the Islamist and Misurata-backed coalition of militias+political groups that seized control of the capital last August" ft.com/content/d6bc14…
